Department of Transportation Surveyor Position

Our client, a leader in the engineering/utility industry, located near Madison, WI is looking to add a Department of Transportation (DOT) Surveyor to its team. [This job is NOT with the State of Wisconsin Department of Transportation.] The company is seeking a highly proficient and thoroughly experienced Surveyor in highway construction staking for Wisconsin DOT projects. Position includes field survey crew chief responsibilities for carrying out highway construction staking as well as right of way staking. Experience with TDS, Trimble, Carlson data collectors, robotic total stations and RTK GPS survey instruments is required. Applicant must be highly proficient in computer processing of survey data for upload/download to various data collectors and use of survey equipment. Must also be very proficient in AutoCAD drafting. Experience in working with AutoCAD Civil 3D and CAiSE survey data files a plus.

Proficiency in working with survey/design software such as Eagle Point, SoftPAC, AutoDesk Civil 3D, MicroStation and Carlson Civil software also a plus.

Surveyor will work with highway construction plans/drawings and will be responsible for processing roadway survey data and carrying out construction survey staking for highway projects. This position will require organizational skills in performing field work as well as office duties in coordinating and scheduling crews, performing land records research, preparing surveying time estimates, and preparing highway right-of way plats meeting DOT standards. Good writing skills and proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel is required.

The DOT Surveyor will be involved on projects throughout southern and central Wisconsin. Work will also include general land surveying, CSM preparation, Subdivision Plats, ALTA surveys, and Topographic Surveys for land development. Experience with FEMA LOMA and Flood Plain delineation mapping is a plus.

Qualifications:
o Experience with Trimble, Topcon, and Leica Robotic Total Station and RTK GPS equipment & data collectors.
o Experience and proficiency in AutoCAD drafting of CSMs, Topographic surveys and Subdivision Plats
o Knowledge to accurately estimate surveying needs and able to perform field surveying for transportation projects.
o Highly motivated with good planning and comunications skills
