Application Science Engineer: DemandTec

The Application Science Engineer will be responsible for designing and developing new data mining and econometric models of consumer demand for use in DemandTec's software products. The ideal candidate will have a solid background in computer science, data mining and statistics. The candidate must also have reasonably strong written and oral communications skills allowing them to effectively interact with other members of the Science team as well as the broader engineering community. Candidates must be detail oriented, organized, and able to handle multiple and shifting priorities. He or she must be able to work well with others with minimum supervision in a fast paced, dynamic environment.

Primary Responsibilities:

• Lead projects and interact with scientists, engineers, database administrators, and the product management team to maintain and improve the existing science code
• Design and develop data mining and regression algorithms and models
• Support the Operations team in troubleshooting of software issues
• Perform ad hoc diagnostic and exploratory queries and analyses

Required Experience:

• 3+ years of experience programming in Java, C++ or other OO languages
• Experience designing and implementing data mining and statistical techniques in software products
• Experience /expertise in dealing with terabyte-sized datasets

Required Education:

• BS in Computer Science or related field

Desired Skill Set:

• MS/PhD in Computer Science, Statistics, Operations Research or related field
• Experience with the Agile development process
• Experience with SQL Analytic/OLAP windowing functions
• Experience working with distributed datasets (Hadoop, Neteeza, GreenPlum, etc.)
