Heartbeat Digital, an NYC interactive agency focusing on the pharmaceutical sector, is seeking such a wizard, one who possesses the mystical powers to transform tired rich media interfaces, applications, banners and websites into things bold, wondrous and otherworldly.

What else must this supernatural being do?

The Art Director will collaborate on overall campaign concepts and spearhead interactive-specific ideas. Alongside the ECD and ACDs, the Art Director will lead hands-on creative for interactive design projects and online creative campaigns.

This ideal enchanter should also possess solid problem-solving abilities and big picture perspective on creative and advertising campaigns, incorporating best design and technology practices to support overall creative strategies.

Requirements:

  • 5+ years of agency experience.
  • Formal design training with solid typography, graphic and interaction design skills.
  • Strong working experience with Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator and Flash, and image optimization for web.
  • Solid experience creating web graphics, animations, user interfaces, icons, style sheets, color schemes, templates and layouts for use in online advertising and website projects, ensuring site- wide color and typeface standards and consistency.
  • In-depth knowledge of the latest versions of Flash, PhotoShop, ImageReady, Illustrator, InDesign, Shockwave, Director, Dreamweaver (and other web authoring/motion graphic tools), Fireworks and Freehand.
  • Understanding of HTML, DHTML and JavaScript (rollovers, pop-ups), as well as web browser capabilities and user interaction.
  • Experience providing art direction to designers, flash developers, front and back end developers.
  • Experience working with various online ad design specs and media requirements.
  • Experience creating and working with site maps, online ad rich media storyboards, user flow, wireframes, and other information design documents for websites and online advertising.
  • Bachelor’s degree in graphic design or commensurate experience.

Skills:

  • Strong concept development and graphic design ability.
  • Excellent understanding of composition, color, imagery and typography.
  • Ability to clearly communicate ideas to clients.
  • Ability to guide designers, flash developers and coders to take concepts from inception through production to completion.
  • Excellent understanding of user experience issues.
  • Ability to self-manage projects and to work within deadlines.
  • Track record as a self-motivated team player.
