Job Description
Cooper Tire is seeking full time simulation engineer to drive further expansion into using advanced finite element simulation at the R&D headquarters in Findlay, Ohio. The position involves using proprietary and commercial tools in analyzing tires. The work is integral to shortening product design cycles as well as building Cooper’s internal knowledge. Additional responsibilities will include methods validation and evaluation and development of tire mechanics theories.
Job Responsibilities
You will work along-side tire development engineers, collaborating on the design and analysis of new tires. You will use our combination of proprietary and commercial tire design tools and finite element software. As the analysis expert, you will be expected to provide insight into the physics of tires, and thereby contribute to the development of new tire design theories. You will be expected to do more than just use our design and analysis tools; you will help drive their evolution.
Duties include: • Collaboration with groups of tire development, materials development, test development and other CAE engineers to use, develop and improve predictive tire and material models needed to develop critical insight into complex tire performance characteristics. • Validate simulation technologies through tire test programs involving physical testing and analysis. • Contribute insight and resources to help design and test the next generation of modeling methods, technology and tools. • Develop and enhance relationships between simulation and the product development process.
Job Qualifications
To perform this position successfully, an individual must be able to perform each job duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge and/or abilities required. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential duties.
Prerequisites: • Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering or Applied Mechanics with coursework in Finite Element Methods at minimum. • Advanced FEA background and exemplary skill in practical application of engineering. • Experience applying FEA simulation to product development processes in an industry setting • Diverse range of experience including o mechanical and materials engineering o computer numeric methods o programming and logic • Professional working standard with excellent communication skills. • The position requires the candidate to be highly enthusiastic and motivated with experience in both team oriented and independent projects.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS: • Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering or Applied Mechanics, with graduate level finite element coursework • Strong experience with the ABAQUS package on highly non-linear problems. • Good background in modeling in a commercial CAD package, with preference of either Pro/ENGINEER or CATIA. • Previous work or co-op experience. • Experience in tire knowledge and a reinforced composite rubber structure.
