Position Description:

Scholastic Book Fairs works with schools across the country to host more than 120,000 annual reading events, connecting more than 55 million children with great books each year. Book Fairs foster enthusiasm for reading, while helping to build school and classroom libraries by providing students, teachers and parents access to thousands of books and educational products at affordable prices.

The Director, Transportation and Faciliies will be responsible for the following areas:
Fleet Management / Facilities Management / Logistics Management / Budget Development & Tracking / Driver Management / Vendor Management / Project Management

Fleet Management:
Manage private fleet of approximately 300 delivery trucks. Includes policies, analysis and opportunity identification related to company employed drivers, trucks, equipment and regulatory compliance.

Facilities Management:
Manage real estate selection and lease management activities. Reduce facility-related costs while supporting network optimization effort. Ensure effective and safe day-to-day management of existing facilities.

Logistics Management:
Direct efforts to cost-effectively secure and deliver over $140mm of product … sourced domestically and internationally. Manage and refine processes to improve logistics costs and reduce lead times.

Safety Management:
Establish and manage driver safety training and loss prevention.

Vendor Management:
Ability to develop improved operation with delivery outside vendors. Lead project to reduce number of vendors to reduce costs and improve service. Develop a tracking program that the field can use to monitor the vendors' progress in the areas of temporary driver vendors, rental truck vendors and peak season supplement vendors.

Analytical Ability:
Strong analytical ability for costing models, return on investment, cause & affect and detailed expense line budgeting and budget management.

Leadership:
Demonstrated management skills with HR proficiency in performance management, recruiting, employee development and optimal resource allocation.

Customer Service Focus:
Support the philosophy of complete customer
satisfaction by ensuring processes and metrics are in place to produce and deliver a high quality product.

Qualifications:

Bachelor's Degree in Management, Business, Transportation, Logistics or Engineering related curriculum required
Advanced Degree in Management, Business Administration or Other related curriculum preferred
Minimum of 5 years in Logistics, Fleet Operations or related areas is required, 10 years is preferred.
Minimum of 2 years experience in front line management.
Expertise and demonstrated capability to manage a high quality, efficient, and cost-effective fleet.
Expertise in transportation and logistics functions, including working with ocean, truck load, less than truck load, intermodal (rail) and small parcel carriers.
Strong knowledge on Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations – DOT and OSHA regulations and compliance.
Expertise in managing a fleet vendor network including contract negotiations.
Expertise in Loss Prevention and safety programs.
Expertise in corporate Real Estate management, including identification and execution of initiatives to improve.
Ability to identify major opportunities for improvement in cost savings, lead time reduction, and customer service.
Ability to communicate company-wide benefits due to functional projects and gain buy-in.
Proven record of establishing polices, process and procedures
Proven leadership and employee development skills
