Public Works Superintendent The City of Victoria is accepting applications Minimum qualifications include: A Class C water license, Salary range is from $56,853 to $63,357 DOQ. Applications are being accepted until Position Summary:
Under the general direction of the Public Works/Parks and Recreation Director, plans, directs and regularly evaluates all activities of the public works department including the areas of street maintenance; operation and maintenance of the municipal water treatment plant and wastewater collection system; and equipment maintenance.
Essential Accountabilities and Expected Outcomes
1) Oversees and coordinates established functions of the department and supervises staff for whom accountable.
a. Infrastructure services provided are consistently timely, responsive and thoroughly completed as expected. Available resources are being efficiently utilized. b. As requested by the Public Works/Parks and Director, participates in interviewing, promoting, disciplining, and rewarding employees as well as training, evaluating performance and assigning/ prioritizing work.
2) Reviews operational and project priorities with the Public Works/Parks and Recreation Director and communicates these priorities to department personnel.
a. Keeps the Public Works/Parks and Recreation Director informed on the status of all operational and project activities. b. Active participation in short and longer term planning and budgeting of maintenance and repair projects helps ensure that resources are efficiently and effectively utilized.
3) Determines work schedules and daily assigns/prioritizes work tasks to staff allowing senior employees to independently make decisions on how work assignments are carried out.
a. Work schedules and work assignments are balanced between immediate needs and longer-term projects.
b. Work assignments are completed timely to ensure the maintenance of City infrastructure.
4) Directs a program of prescribed safety policies, procedures and protocols based on all applicable federal, state and local laws and regulations.
a. Regular, ongoing safety training helps ensure required compliance with all established safety policies, procedures and protocols.
5) Monitors and evaluates department results and recommends new and/or modified operational policies to the Public Works/Parks and Recreation Director.
a. Solutions to operational and maintenance challenges are thorough, well-documented and typically approved for implementation.
6) Maintains all operational and maintenance project and general activity records.
a. Records are kept current, available as needed and are reliable in their accuracy and completeness.
7) Coordinates personnel and equipment resources as may be required by emergency situations.
a. Established emergency response protocols are clearly communicated and followed in a manner that helps mitigate the emergency condition in a timely and safe manner.
8) Provides input regarding the purchase, lease or rental of equipment and/or additional inventory of parts and supplies required to support department operational and maintenance responsibilities.
a. Inventory records are current and complete.
9) Handles inquiries and complaints from residents, contractors, developers and other interested parties regarding department projects.
a. Inquiries and complaints are addressed in a timely, consistently businesslike, respectful manner while ensuring the City’s interests and obligations are clear to all parties.
10) Obtains and maintains licensing necessary for position and keeps current on public works trends, technologies and improved operational / maintenance approaches that have high potential for the City.
a. Recommendations from reading, training/information seminars, and collaboration with counterparts in other cities are current and frequently implemented, as appropriate.
11) Regularly performs various tasks of Public Works Workers 1, 2 or 3 as required due to absences or time requirements.
12) Performs other job related duties as directed by the Public Works/Parks and Recreation Director.

Work is typically a mix of inside and outside work.
Selection Criteria to Qualify for This Position:
Post-secondary two year technical degree in maintenance, and at least seven years’ experience, including two years of budgeting and supervisory experience, in public works operations, with exposure to all maintenance aspects of streets and roads; park maintenance; public utilities maintenance; and building and grounds maintenance.
A Class C water license and a Class S-C wastewater license are required.
A valid Minnesota Class A commercial license with air brakes is required.
