Position summary:
Reporting directly to the Dean, the Director of Budget and Planning is responsible for all financial operations at the SCOL. The Director is responsible for establishing key financial policies and procedures, developing the budget, and monitoring the compliance of the use of the College's financial resources. This position has an independent (dotted) reporting line to the Office of the Provost and Vice Chancellor for Financial and Business Affairs (the Associate Provost and the Controller, respectively) with respect to budget development and control. The Director serves as the primary liaison to all central financial offices on behalf of the College of Law.

Following are the essential duties for this key position:

-Manage preparation of $32 million annual tuition revenue budget with responsibility for the law school budget during all phases of the University budgeting process including budget modeling, budget submission and negotiation, expense budget development, revenue and expense forecasting, and deployment of funds. (40%)

- Develop and manage budget for expenditure of proceeds from various SCOL endowments and annual gifts in compliance with donor intent. (5%)

-Prepare various reporting requirements and analyses throughout the year as requested by the Dean or central units. This includes but is not limited to reporting for the ABA, donor financials, enrollment management efforts, etc. (5%)

- Review budget requests submitted by law school department heads and in collaboration with the Dean to make decisions on the distribution of the law school's expense budget. Research and resolve questions and problems pertaining to the SCOL budget. This also includes providing information to managers in order for them to make important budget decisions throughout the fiscal year. (5%)

- Supervise, coordinate and implement all financial functions of the law school including but not limited to revenues and receivables, purchasing (to include purchasing cards), accounts payable, signing HR related paperwork, and fiscal reporting. This includes day to day online journal and budget entries. Train and manage performance of employees performing these functions. (15%)

- Prepare annual awarding plan for the 200+ "named" scholarships offered from gift and endowed funds. Determine the amount available for each award basing calculations on a three-year awarding cycle. Assist with Financial Aid Modeling for the law school including institutional scholarships as well as a gift and endowed funds. Provide Assistant Dean continuous updates of this information. (5%)

- Independently monitor revenue and expense budgets on an ongoing basis to ensure that goals are met and budget revisions are submitted as necessary. Provide the Dean with timely and continuous updates on budgetary and financial matters. (10%)

- In collaboration with the Assistant Dean of Student Affairs and the Manager of Student Affairs assist COL student organizations in planning, monitoring and reconciling their organizations' budgets. (5%)

- Review faculty travel requests and approve/deny by applying the Dean's faculty travel policy and philosophy. Monitor faculty expenses and track cost of faculty support. Track individual faculty expenditures from research grants, keeping faculty informed of balance available and report same to the Dean. The Director will consult on all faculty salary matters and gain-share distribution directly with the Dean of the COL. (5%)

-Review and approve all contracts that encumber the University for compliance with contracting policies and for funding availability. (5%)

Other duties as assigned.

Minimum qualifications-- B.S. or B.A. required
- Five years progressive work experience involving budget preparation and monitoring
- Minimum two years management/supervisory experience
- Excellent computer skills in spreadsheet, database and word processing applications

Required qualifications:
Must be able to communicate and work effectively with members of the University and greater communities. Must be able to exercise good judgment and act professionally when dealing with the public and the College of Law community. Demonstrated leadership and interpersonal skills are required. As an Exempt employee, additional weekend and evening hours may be required to get the job done as well as meet designated deadlines.

Preferred qualifications: - Advanced degree
- Major or coursework in accounting and/or business administration
- Knowledge of budgeting in an academic environment
- Banner knowledge
- Knowledge of finance systems and generally accepted accounting principles
