POSITION REQUIREMENTS

Under the general direction of the Nurse Manager of Cardiology and Radiology Services, the Cardiac Exercise Specialist sets up and operates various types of equipment utilized in the treatment/ rehabilitation of cardiac disease and or illness. He/she works with the Cardiac Rehabilitation RN to perform the treatment plans and present the results of the test to the cardiologist and/or attending physician. The Cardiac Exercise Specialist is also responsible for clerical, communication, and organizational duties related to the function of the Cardiopulmonary Rehabilitation. This individual must display the highest level of skill and experience attainable within his/her assigned facility.

Essential Accountabilities

• Monitor cardiac rate and rhythm of patients.

• Performs needed screening testing, for example but not limited to blood pressure assessment and pulse oximetry. Assists the Cardiopulmonary Rehab RN with proper documentation of patient vitals. Reports any abnormalities of vital signs or cardiac rhythm to RN.

• Assists with patient orientation and education under the direction of the RN.

• Assists with the maintenance of equipment and supplies in the Cardiopulmonary Rehabilitation Department.

• Performs clerical duties as assigned to include but not limited to, typing memos and reports and other duties as needed.

• Maintains the communication center of the Cardiopulmonary Rehabilitation Department including handling telephone calls, receiving visitors, patients, physicians, and others coming to the Cardiopulmonary Rehabilitation Department.

• Participates in Phases I, II and III of Cardiopulmonary Rehabilitation.



Essential Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Certification, Registration, or Licensure: ACLS and CPR certification at Healthcare Provider level.

Minimum Education: Degree in Exercise Physiology and training in Cardiopulmonary Rehabilitation.

Minimum Experience: Three months to one-year employment cardiology medical environment, with additional experience in Cardiopulmonary Rehabilitation or related field. Familiarity with medical terminology preferred. Familiarities of computers (Windows 98 or greater, preferred) fax machines, and other various office devices.

Other: Desire and ability to work with patients. Must possess good oral and written communication skills to be able to effectively communicate with patients, visitors, physicians, physicians' offices, and fellow staff members. Must exhibit excellence in prioritization and able to function in a busy environment with a multitude of distractions. Must possess excellent organizational skills. Exercise of patient confidentiality is essential. Must follow all safety and infection control rules and regulations.
