| Job Description: ** We are recruiting for 2 Senior Projects Managers at this time. Both positions are located in Terminal Island, CA.
BROAD FUNCTION AND SCOPE OF THE POSITION: This position guides the Food Technologists to assure that research projects are carried out in an efficient and scientific manner. Manage highly technical special projects requiring specialized skills and knowledge beyond that required by a Projects Manager.
PRINCIPAL CONTINUING RESPONSIBILITIES: This position is responsible for the daily direction of the Technologist activity involved in pet food research and the incumbent is required to be personally involved in the performing of research. This position also requires the incumbent to have the expertise to independently handle highly complex technical process or product problems beyond the scope of the Projects Manager on a highly focused basis.
The problems most often encountered in this position are technical problems related to the development or modification of pet foods and troubleshooting problems related to DLM pet food processes. The greatest challenge is to achieve the desired research results within the product image and time guidelines established by Management.
The functions performed by this position are to assign projects to the Technologist and provide the daily technical guidance necessary to (1) assure that projects are conducted scientifically and efficiently, (2) troubleshoot (solve) production problems, and (3) communicate the results of projects to the Lab Manager, Product Development or other DLM personnel as required.
The incumbent cannot establish policies, issue formulas or formula changes or communicate the results of research to persons outside the Laboratory without approval of the Lab Manager, Product Development and/or the Director, Research & Development.
The incumbent is responsible to assure that the research in his/her section is carried out is a scientific and efficient manner, see that the data collected is recorded and interpreted and to communicate the research results to the Lab Manager, Product Development to provide a sound basis for making decisions as to the acceptability of ingredients for commercial production.
The incumbent's most significant contracts within the company are daily contacts with the other groups in the Laboratory and at least weekly contacts with Marketing, Operations, Research & Process Engineering, Packaging, Quality Assurance, and outside supplier representatives.
The incumbent guides his/her subordinates to efficiently and successfully complete assigned projects including product improvement, cost reduction, ingredient evaluations, and acts as a Task Force Leader for projects requiring multiple disciplines and/or groups with the company.
This position reviews the results of projects and recommendations of the Food Technologists to assure proper interpretation. Recommends future direction on each project to the Lab Manager, Product Development and communicates the acceptability of modified products for commercial productions to the proper personnel.
QUALIFICATIONS: The incumbent should have a Master level University training or the equivalent experience in a food or agricultural related field and ten (10) years or more experience in pet food research. Additionally, the incumbent is one recognized as an expert in the field of research and capable of independently managing highly technical projects, requiring expertise beyond the scope of a Projects Manager, that must be expedited on a highly focused basis.
