Support Technician: Becton Dickinson & Company (BD)
PURPOSE & OBJECTIVE Under the direction of the Business Team Leader, performs various process improvements of machines and equipment (molding/extrusiom/packaging). Establishes and/or improves overall process reliability through optimization and permanent corrective action. Responsible for driving maintenance programs/activities to maximize equipment uptime. Supports his/her assigned product team by taking an active role in teamsharing, problem solving tasks, team activities, and team and plant-wide subgroups focusing on the plant goals of safety, quality, schedule and cost. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS Works in conjunction with Technical Team Members and Engineering resources to improve process reliability and optimize process parameters, which result in operational improvements and/or cost savings. Also responsible for troubleshooting machine failures and restoring equipment to running status. Develops team members through providing operations and maintenance training on equipment. Assists in setting up troubleshooting and training procedures for team members and provides other technical assistance as required. Responsible for assessing technical proficiency of team members to their training plans. Participates as an active member of the Team’s Leadership Group, along with the Business Team Leader / Technical Crew Lead and Process Engineer, with responsibility to engage in team learning and growth, e.g., team feedback and conflict resolution. Actively participate in Team Shares. Performs various design and/or development duties utilizing the latest design techniques and components in the development of new and/or improved production equipment. Initiates design improvements to minimize waste, increase production, increase life expectancy and lower total spare parts cost. Recommend spare part items for equipment and inventory levels to be maintained to support production. Leads the testing or debugging of new equipment, providing technical assistance as required. Makes a recommendation for corrections and/or changes required achieving approval and maximizing performance. Works with Engineering to create spare parts, lists and usage requirements. Submits periodic progress reports to team on current projects through Project Review. Champions Preventive Maintenance/TPM process implementation for product team. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES Thorough knowledge of production equipment, especially mechanical systems, transmissions and linkages. Also must be knowledgable with operation and troubleshooting of basic industrial electrical systems and control devices (photocells, proximity switches, etc.) Proven troubleshooting ability and methodology. Ability to transfer technical knowledge. Must adhere to Lockout/Tagout procedures. Required working with sharp objects (i.e., Cutting blades, anvils, rotary knives, gears, metal, etc.) Required working with hot equipment (i.e., Blisterpack sealing dies, Endcut/Center cut blades) Repairs and maintenance ability. Strong social and communication skills. Ability to work flexible work schedule. WORKING CONDITIONS Must have the physical ability to lift up to 25 pounds repetitively, 65 pounds non-repetitively. Safety glasses and hearing protection are required on the manufacturing floor and other designated areas. Adheres to plant safety requirements, OSHA and QSR/GMP/ISO guidelines as applicable. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
A.S. Degree in Engineering or Technology or equivalent experience and technical training. If not degreed should be working towards technical degree at accredited school or through a company approved development plan.
Four years of technical experience in a high volume manufacturing environment.
Recent exposure to current manufacturing technology and state-of-the-art processing.
Possess proficient skills in industrial electrical systems.
Willingness/ability to work in a participative plant culture.
Prior experience with Rockwell software programs is a plus.
