Provides training and technical assistance to ensure that each classroom and teaching staff is in compliance with Head Start Performance Standards as well as agency policies and regulations. Supervises and coordinates the work activities of Head Start (HS) teaching staff.
REPORTS TO: County Manager and HS Education Manager (Ocala Main Office)
PAY GRADE: 16B Level I (Bachelors Degree)
Level II (Masters Degree or Bachelors Degree with Center Operations Responsibility)
Level III (Masters Degree with Center Operations Responsibility)
COMPENSATION: Level I starts at base pay of 16B
Level II starts seven percent (7%) more than Level I
Level III starts at seven percent (7%) more than Level II
(Note: Current employees promoted into the higher levels of this position will receive the base of the established level of compensation or five percent (5%), whichever is greater.)
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Supervise/mentor HS teachers in assigned area.
- Conduct classroom visits to ensure that all teachers are meeting the requirements under Head Start Performance Standards, NAEYC, and the state of Florida .
- Provide training and technical assistance to the teaching staff.
- Participate with the design, development, and delivery of in-service training for HS teaching staff and volunteers.
- Conduct and complete periodic assessments of children in the area of early childhood and health services.
- Assist teaching staff to enhance parent involvement in their child’s education.
- Work collaboratively with all HS staff to ensure that the overall needs of children/families are being met.
- Initiate purchase orders and distribute supplies.
- Monitor home visits, parent teacher conferences and child assessments and ensure that data is entered in a timely manner to appropriate programs.
- Assist with efforts to ensure that the program meets its non-federal share and volunteer requirement.
- Monitor facilities, materials, building, equipment and grounds of center to ensure compliance with standards.
- Provide support in obtaining/maintaining NAEYC accreditation.
ADDITIONAL CENTER DIRECTOR DUTIES:
- Responsible for staffing, scheduling, and center operations.
- Interact with parents and families of children served and address their concerns and issues.
- Develop and maintain written policies and procedures for center operation.
- Serve as liaison to the Early Learning Program to ensure appropriate standards are met (at designated locations).
- Responsible for initiating fire drills and documenting (Boynton).
- Director or designated staff needs to be on premises at all times, as per licensing.
- Responsible for security of the building, windows, and doors secured (Boynton and Howard).
- Responsible for safety in the parking area (Boynton and Howard).

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
1. BS Degree in Early Childhood Education or a Bachelor’s degree with six college courses in child development or early childhood education.
2. One-year (12 months) experience in classroom in an early childhood setting.
3. One year (12 months) of supervisory experience.
4. Knowledge of the principles human development and the learning process.
5. Knowledge of the principles, practices and objectives of quality early childhood programs.
6. Ability to travel within assigned Counties.
7. Knowledge of pertinent federal, state, city and other necessary laws, rules, regulations and guidelines.
8. Ability to write letters, proposals, reports and evaluations and to communicate verbally.
9. Ability to develop and maintain effective interpersonal relationships.
10. Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
ADDITIONAL DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Knowledge of the functions of social service grant agencies.
2. Current Florida Directors Credential.
