Spacecraft Bus. Systems Engineer
Job Description:
General Purpose of Job: Spacecraft Bus Systems Engineer for Commercial and Civil Satellite Systems design with an emphasis on Commercial Communications Satellite Missions. As a Spacecraft Bus Systems Engineer in developing winning proposal to capture new awards, you will work in a dynamic environment among a group of talented satellite systems engineers and work closely with Proposal Manager, Marketing, Program Management, and others to develop optimized satellite system solutions to best meet customer requirements as well as internal winning strategy. Essential Functions of the Job: • Responsible for spacecraft bus systems engineering efforts on a satellite including power, thermal, attitude control, propulsion, structural, configuration, and data handling subsystems. • Understand effective balance between customer requirements and internal winning strategy • Define overall satellite system and various bus subsystems requirements, specifications and develop corresponding design architectures • Perform accurate and thorough power, thermal, propellant life, etc system budgets • Provide technical bus support and interface during pre-proposal meetings and proposal presentations with customers and their consultants. • Responsible for bus subsystems content in the Technical Proposal Volumes. • Work effectively with other team members and various internal organizations. • Support IRAD process and project development as required. • Must be familiar with typical commercial satellite bus subsystems and knowledge of SS/L 1300 satellite configuration and subsystems is a plus. • Familiarity with standard commercial launch vehicle interfaces and Pro-E is a plus. Minimum Skills and Years of Experience Required to Perform the Above: 5 or more years experience in satellite system design and engineering (especially commercial communications satellite), including in-depth knowledge of one or multiple bus subsystems (power, thermal, attitude control, propulsion, structural, configuration, and/or data handling). Hands on experience with commercial communications satellite bus subsystems design are required. Experience in satellite system integration and test, and in working with customer is highly desirable. Minimum Education or Equivalency: BS or MS degree with 5 or more years of relevant work experience. Degree preferably in Engineering or other equivalent technical degree. Experience in satellite-related industry is a plus.
