Job Title: Risk Examiner, Residential Mortgage Lead

Area Overview:
One of the missions of the Credit Risk Department is to contribute to the Bank's financial stability objectives by pro-actively monitoring and assessing inherent/emerging risks related to consumer credit at our supervised institutions and within the financial system in general. Consumer products include residential mortgage, credit card, auto and other retail lending. The Consumer Credit Team provides input for the analysis of the financial capacity of our supervised institutions to support consumer credit businesses and also provides examination support and expertise for high risk consumer activities and Basel II implementation. The Team's primary focus is domestic Large Complex Banking Organizations that are active in the retail credit business but it also applies it expertise as needed in the supervision of other institutions with consumer credit exposures.

Candidates should have extensive credit risk management experience in residential mortgages and the consumer financial services industry in general, strong analytical/problem solving skills, and excellent written and oral communication abilities. The successful candidate will be expected to leverage those skills in evaluating banking organizations' relevant risk management practices and risk profiles. Further, the individual will be expected to identify issues that may warrant further supervisory consideration relative to existing or future guidance.

Job Responsibilities:
  • Analyze current industry practices, conditions, and trends and identify inherent / emerging risks as financial products/markets evolve. Serve as retail Basel II / residential mortgage lead;
  • Participate in or lead examinations of consumer product activity at supervised banking organizations (periodic in- and out-of-state travel may be required) which will require presentation of examination results to Federal Reserve and the supervised institution at various executive levels;
  • Formulate supervisory perspective on relevant banks' risk management practices;
  • Participate as needed in the development of or refinement of existing supervisory guidance for sound risk management;
  • Collaborate with other risk areas to ensure that complex issues wherein several risk management questions arise are appropriately assessed;
  • Demonstrate strong intellectual capacity and the ability to identify and share cross-industry risk management practices and emerging industry risk.


Position Requirements:
  • Prior experience in the consumer product area including residential mortgage, credit card, auto and other retail lending. Experience working or participating in Basel II efforts;
  • Familiarity with Basel II framework. Knowledge of retail Basel II, a plus;
  • Strong knowledge of fundamental credit risk principles and practices;
  • Experience in the analysis and/or risk management of relevant credit products;
  • Strong quantitative and analytical thinking skills, with a preference to candidate who has good understanding of consumer portfolio analytics, ALLL, credit loss forecasting methodologies and retail Basel II;
  • Superior problem-solving skills;
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills; well-developed presentation skills;
  • Bachelors degree in an analytic discipline is preferred (Finance or Economics, Mathematics, Statistics); Master's degree a plus.
