MEDICAL ASSISTANT

Job Summary

To provide excellent “Customer Service” daily. Display a professional attitude and appearance at all times. Performs duties under the supervision of the Nursing Supervisor. Prepares patients for Nurse Office Visits (NOV), and Doctor Office Visits ( DOV) by taking vital signs and preparing charts and necessary paperwork as required. Adhere to the Medical Assistants scope of practice. Responsible for following all nursing policy and procedures, objectives, philosophy and personnel policies of (CHS).

Key Functions and Job Responsibilities

• Upholds and supports the mission, vision, philosophy, objectives, policies and ethics of CHSI.
• Greets and confirms patient identity and reason for visit.
• Weighs patient, completes vitals and rooms patient.
• Reviews chart and identifies Patient diagnosis as COMPLEX
• Researches cost of test and works with eligibility representative to determine patient eligibility and method [of payment] if applicable i.e., cash, SFS
• Reviews encounter for Provider accuracy, then escorts Patient to Front Office to checkout.
• Draws labs
• Reviews encounters for accuracy, then walks encounters and patient to front office to check out

• Follows Universal Precautions.

• At the Providers request and under their supervision will perform the following:

  a. Collects specimens and prepares them when required for the laboratory

  b. Run EKG’S

  c. Performs diagnostic tests

  d. Gives oral medications and injections as ordered

Knowledge and Abilities

• Strong “Customer Service” communications, both verbally and in writing.
• Able to perform tasks related to physical activity that include lifting up to 30lbs, extensive bending, sitting, and standing.
• Able to assist patients as needed in wheelchairs, those using walkers, or other patients incapable of helping themselves.
• Ability to deal effectively with changing situations and a high stress profession.
• Must have previous experience working in a medical facility.
• A high standard of professionalism is expected in speech and manner.
• Must be Bilingual in English and Spanish.

Experience and Education

• High School graduate
• Must have a Medical Assistant Certificate
• CPR Certificate required (will allow 30 days to become compliant)
• Venipuncture certificate required
• CHDP Certificates helpful
• One year or more of experience required
• Regardless of experience will complete a “Skills Check-Off List” with the Nursing Supervisor before functioning alone.
