Description:

Job Description - Nuclear / Radiation Detection Scientist to conduct research and development on radiation detection technologies in support of federal sponsors in Homeland Protection and National Security.

Duties - Nuclear / Radiation Detection Scientist to pursue research opportunities to grow nuclear and radiation related programs at APL. Write and contribute to proposals to federal government sponsors. Conduct scholarly research and development programs in pursuit of advanced R/N sensing technologies. Documentation, publications, and technical presentations expected. Manage laboratories and/or computational resources required for RN simulation. Provide expertise and advice to staff and sponsors on technical issues related to radiation and nuclear material detection. This may include, but is not limited to, evaluating third-party technologies, providing guidance for future research priorities, and reviewing analysis results and technical documents. Assist in the development and integration of sensor systems for operational deployment and testing.

Qualifications:

Required - PhD in physics or relevant engineering field with a strong background in experimental or computational science relevant to nuclear material detection for national security. Several years of research experience post PhD required. Experience in the application of detection technologies in support of national security and/or emergency preparedness. Demonstrated record of scholarly publications required. Strong written and verbal communications skills required.

Desired - Four to ten years of experience in experimental nuclear detection methods or computational techniques for the simulation of nuclear radiation detection desired. Demonstrated proficiency in training or record of teaching experience desired. Record of attracting research funding and successfully executing research programs desired.
