We are seeking a talented, motivated and accomplished person to design and develop user-friendly interfaces for new Consumer Electronics (CE) devices.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Leads the development of simple, intuitive and user-friendly interfaces for Imation’s consumer electronic products. These may include, Graphical User Interfaces (GUIs), Web-based user interfaces and tactile interfaces.
- Gathers user-requirements through direct interaction with customers and/ or the marketing teams.
- Works with Brand and Product Managers to ensure alignment of user interface design with brand promise and to ensure consistency within product portfolio.
- Develops the information architecture and layout, along with the process and information flow system.
- Leads the development of the following: prototypes to evaluate basic functionality and usability; graphical user interface to evaluate user friendliness and feel; appropriate software and firmware to enable selected user interfaces.
- Works with ODMs, external software developers, leading and overseeing their efforts.
- Project engineering responsibility includes managing multiple tasks and processes of moderate to advanced scope, including: Obtaining and verifying project definition, scope, timeline and product specification; Evaluating design concepts and technologies for feasibility; Directing design activity and resources through design release; Analyzing user input and providing feedback to developers; Performing design reviews for product design verification, insuring product satisfies specification, and the use of the FMEA and DFMA techniques; Validating designs through product prototyping and testing; Preparing reports and presenting project status; Working with ODMs, design houses and software developers to ensure design compliance; Assuring the protection and processing of intellectual property and patents.
- Stays abreast of industry developments and applies knowledge of customer needs toward new markets for Imation products.
REQUIREMENTS
- Bachelors degree in relevant field.
- 8+ years in user interface development or similar role.
- Prior experience with programming displays and on-line programming is highly desirable.
- Knowledge and capability in Human Factors Engineering is highly desirable. Knowledge of tools such as Humanoid, Peridot, etc. is desirable. Should have basic familiarity with materials and their design functionality, feel and appeal.
- Strong project management skills are required along with an appreciation for the importance of continuous process and product quality improvement.
- Demonstrated ability to work openly and collaboratively with engineering, marketing and other cross-functional partners to define solutions and achieve shared objectives.
- Proven systematic, process-oriented approach to problem solving and product design.
- Ability to quickly absorb and apply new technical and business information as required.
