Job Summary:
Teradata Systems DBA. Participates in the development and implementation of complex databases, often using new technologies and database design work. Serves as a fully seasoned/proficient technical resource. May manage one or more moderately complex projects. Works under minimal supervision, with general guidance from more seasoned managers. Works on complex problems where analysis of situations or data requires an in-depth evaluation of various factors. Exercises judgment within broadly defined practices and policies in selecting methods, techniques, and evaluation criterion for obtaining results. The Database Administrator reports to the Director, Enterprise Database Services.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for designing, capacity planning and managing the enterprise database systems including DB2, Oracle, Informix, Microsoft SQL Server or Teradata.
  • Optimizes physical design and environment for different data access methods and performance and monitors performance and provides recommendations for schema enhancements.
  • Expert in designing, creating and tuning physical database objects (tables, views, indexes) to support normalized and dimensional models. Maintain the referential integrity of the database. Monitors and tunes the enterprise network for optimal performance.
  • Must work with developers in tuning SQL.
  • Installs and configures DBMS software and maintains software release levels.
  • Develops, tests and implements backup and recovery strategy.
  • Able to Provide ongoing support of the environment by developing processes and executing object migrations, security and access privilege setup, and performance monitoring.
  • Develops database monitoring procedures and utilities.
  • Provide 24x7 support and ensure that all critical database problems are resolved in a timely manner.
  • Coordinate with DBA Team on infrastructure enhancement or large development projects.

Job Requirements:

  • BS or BA degree in computer science, business administration or related work experience
  • 3-5 years experience as a Database Administrator; Teradata experience preferred.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and to deal with database vendors.
  • Knowledge of database recovery and restart procedures.
  • Shell scripting, system tuning and troubleshooting.
  • Performance monitoring, troubleshooting skills.
  • Shell scripting, system tuning and troubleshooting on UNIX, MVS or Windows.
  • Excellent SQL skills and understanding of Database concepts and tools.
  • Excellent personal communication, leadership and organizational skills.
