Summary:
The primary role of the Oracle Database Administrator/Architect will be to support all aspects of a 24x7 high availability operation. The Data Architect will provide strategic level technical leadership in the areas of data definition, data modeling, data architecture, physical database design, data warehouse development, data warehouse development, data quality standards, meta data management and database standards. The Data Architect will collaborate with project management, software development, test, and production support teams and business end users to ensure effective and accurate implementation of data administration standards, during the development lifecycle. The Database Administrator/Architect will be the lead and implement Database Solutions for all IT projects. Projects will be complex and cross-functional in nature, with corporate-wide impact. Responsible for project design, research, implementation, disaster recovery and ensuring objectives are accomplished within prescribed timeframes. This position will be responsible for solution discovery, strategy, design and development, and will provide support, training and assistance through project implementation, transition, and maintenance. The Database Administrator/Architect is a key member of the maintenance and ad hoc development staff with responsibility for the proper functioning of all components of the company’s Databases. The DBA will be well versed in all operational processes and procedures and will have primary responsibility for actions required to maintain site availability and performance. The position coordinates with other IS areas to resolve problems if necessary. and is responsible for maintaining and enhancing the company’s existing Oracle, MS SQL and Informix databases.
Oracle 9i/10G, RAC, SQL, INFORMIX databases, Unix/Linux and Perl scripting, RMAN, Apex, OCFS, ASM, Oracle database backup and restore, create and manage Oracle standby databases, patch installation and maintenance; installing, upgrading, and supporting database software; performance tuning.
Responsibilities:
· Perform, or ensure performance of, all tasks and responsibilities described in the Database Administrator /Architect description.
· Continual advancement in level of knowledge and proficiency in all I.T. policies, procedures, and User Services-supported technologies, and appropriate utilization of this proficiency.
· Relate to users on a professional level; in both written and verbal form.
· Resolve moderate Development and user issues without escalation whenever possible. Escalate all other issues as appropriate to ensure resolution.
· Assist in development and maintenance of end-user training materials and programs.
· Assist in cross-training operational of staff.
· Participate in team projects that enhance the quality and efficiency of User Services.
· Attend mandatory training and meetings.
· Document all service request in Remedy Help Desk
· Other tasks and duties as assigned.
· On-Call as required
Requirements: Excellent verbal and written English communication skills.
Recommended Qualifications:
Strong candidates will be good communicators who are mature, creative, well organized, and have an interest in developing themselves professionally. Must be proactive and show initiative.
· Bachelor's Degree, Military or equivalent experience.
· 5 or more years experience in a 24x7 data center operation.
· Strong knowledge of IP based network services
· Experience with UNIX shell and Perl scripting
· Extensive Database design experience
· Experience with Oracle 9i/10g RAC
· Experience with RMAN and VERITAS NetBackup
· Experience with SAN/NAS technology a plus
· Ability to multi-task and prioritize.
· Possess self-motivation and drive to add value and make a positive impact to this organization.
EDUCATION/TRAINING
Work requires communications and analytical skills normally acquired through two years of post-secondary education in mathematics, computer science or a related field, or equivalent technical training in a computer-related field.

Work requires five years experience with Database Administration and Architecture.
