Position Description

Sr. Director of Product Development, Medical LOB


Summary:


Immersion, the leader in medical education and surgical simulation, is seeking Medical industry professionals that are bright, creative, and enthusiastic to contribute to the development and qualification of sophisticated Medical and Surgical Simulators using our patented Haptic devices. Immersion supports several areas of medical simulation training with experience in endovascular, laparoscopy, endoscopy, intravenous access, and custom-designed simulation.


Role: Develop and lead the process of identifying requirements and content for Immersion Medical’s products and services. Lead the coordination and management of all development and support projects on new and existing training systems. Directly manage the product development software, hardware and modeling staff including mentoring, staff retention and group budgeting. Assist product management and Medical LOB executive staff as needed to support marketing and sales of product line, including workshops, trade shows and conferences. Oversee technical support on products, both hardware and software, along with clinical explanation of products.


Essential duties and responsibilities will include the following. Other duties may be assigned as required:


General


· Responsible for the coordination and management of all assigned development and/or support projects.

· Responsible for leadership and direction of product-centered project team(s) to develop and commercialize products. Represents them before various committees that provide review, approval and strategic direction.

· Plans and communicates to team specific tasks and priorities for projects and provides input to develop necessary change management procedures, documentation processes.

· Lead software, mechanical and electrical engineering and manufacturing teams to complete requirements, design, verification and release to manufacturing for clinical evaluations of new products.

· Coordinate with Director of Quality Assurance to develop test plans & detailed test cases from functional product requirements and design specification documents to ensure devices and software perform according to specifications and requirements.

· Develop, plan, and work with internal customers to implement continuous quality improvement programs.

· Assist product management in the identification and scoping of new potential procedure simulators by providing technical and clinical insights.

· Work with the Office of the CTO to identify and implement strategic innovation in medical product development


Client relations


· Manages, as necessary and in conjunction with product management, outside content providers, medical experts and contractors for in the development process.

· For assigned projects, serves as key contact to internal and external clients, managing needs, expectations and goals.

· Communicates with the client to provide timely project updates, project related fiscal information and ensure correct protocol interpretations.



Project Specific


· Responsible for identifying issues, identification and development of options to manage risk and to optimize the value of the product, including definition of decision points, analysis of options, and recommendation of actions.

· Responsible for identifying barriers to rapid development, recommending and implementing actions to remove them.

· Work with project management organization to identify key milestones and ensure these are communicated to the project team and conflicts in schedule or resources are identified.

· Ensures version control for multiple release products in development.


Personnel


· Provides feedback and identifies cross-functional or interpersonal issues and recommend resolutions to functional management.

· Serves to facilitate a proactive, entrepreneurial spirit that maximizes productivity towards the attainment of team goals.

· Provides technical leadership to staff.


Knowledge, skills and abilities required to perform the job:


Medical Device Experience a must


· Master’s Degree or Ph.D.

· At least 3 years demonstrated inter-disciplinary management

· Some knowledge of at least two of simulation, mechatronics, medical devices. Excellent written and oral communication skills.

· Ability to work in a team environment.

· Strong analytical skills.

· Detail-oriented.

· Strong organizational skills.

· Ability to travel locally, nationally, and internationally as needed.

· Ability to work under pressure and handle stress.

· Ability to get along with a wide variety of people.

· Ability to meet the regular attendance requirements of Immersion Medical.

· Ability to multi-task, work under pressure and handle stress.

· Strong technical trouble shooting skills

· Independent business knowledge (eg expense reports, logistics order)

· Knowledge of Microsoft Suite including Project and Access.
