Nuclear Medicine Supervisor

I. Position Summary:

Performs a variety of duties involving direction, coordination, and supervision of radiology personnel and activities to ensure the efficient use of resources in the Radiology Department. May also perform duties of Technologist.

II. Major Responsibilities:

Directs and supervises assigned personnel including performance evaluations, scheduling, orientation, and training. Makes recommendations on employee hires, transfers, promotions, salary changes, discipline, terminations, and similar actions. Resolves grievances and other personnel problems within position responsibilities.

Makes budget recommendations for the areas managed. Manages activities to assure financial goals are met.

Coordinates the assignment of tasks and helps resolve technical and operational problems. Evaluates the impact of solutions to ensure goals are achieved.

Provides effective direction, guidance, and leadership over the staff for effective teamwork and motivation, and fosters the effective integration of efforts with system-wide initiatives.

Performs the duties of the staff supervised as needed. Performs radiopharmacy duties including but not limited to dose calculations, administration of radiopharmaceuticals, quality control and eluting generators.

Operates and performs quality control on all Nuclear Medicine equipment, i.e.: gamma cameras, both planar and spec, dose calibrators, multi-formatting devices, computers for patients acquisition and processing, and computers for scheduling functions. Carries beeper for on-call support according to department rotation requirements.

Participates in the recommendation and planning of major facilities renovations for the department. Participates in the design and layout of equipment, as well as office and work areas, with hospital personnel and outside vendors.

Investigates and recommends new products, equipment, and methods that will contribute to greater cost efficiency and higher quality radiologic services.

Acts as education resource, available for consultation to medical, nursing, and assigned staff. Introduces and demonstrates new equipment and techniques.

Participates in performance improvement initiatives and demonstrates the use of quality improvement in daily operations.

Ensures compliance with regulatory agencies and requirements including Joint Commission, DPH, DMH, HIPPA, etc. Develops and maintains procedures necessary to meet regulatory requirements.

Ensures that department complies with hospital established policies, quality assurance programs, safety, and infection control policies and procedures.

Ensures adequate equipment and supplies for department.

Develops and maintains established departmental policies, procedures, and objectives.

Ensures compliance to all health and safety regulations and requirements.

Performs similar or related duties as required or directed.

III. Position Qualifications:

Specialized post-secondary training equal to two years of college. Graduate of an approved Nuclear Medicine Technology Training program with board certification by the Nuclear Medicine Technical Certification Board (NMTCB) and American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT). Experience or demonstrated ability in management and supervisory responsibilities. Expert in Nuclear Medicine procedures. Competent to teach student and staff technologists.

Unless certification, licensure or registration is required, an equivalent combination of education and experience which provides proficiency in the areas of responsibility listed in this description may be substituted for the above requirements
