Alexion scientists are among the first in the world to unlock the therapeutic potential of inhibiting terminal complement, a group of proteins that play an important role in the body's immune response and can destroy healthy tissue in certain patients. Alexion discovered and developed Soliris® (eculizumab), a first-in-class terminal complement inhibitor approved in the United States, European Union, Canada and Australia as a treatment for patients with paroxysmal nocturnal hemoglobinuria (PNH). Alexion is working urgently to investigate Soliris and additional biopharmaceuticals as treatments for patients with other rare and severe diseases, including cancer. SummaryResponsiblities: - Work on projects aimed at the discovery and development of potential new therapeutic targets
- Perform cell-based in vitro assays to characterize the performance of candidate biologic molecules
- Evaluate the immunomodulatory and/or anti-tumor activity of potential therapeutics in cell-based assays in vitro.
- Assist in the performance of preclinical experiments in vivo.
- Maintain short and long-term mammalian cell cultures.
- Present and summarize scientific results in oral presentations and reports.

- Experience in small animal in vivo models is desired. The candidate will work closely with other members of the Cellular Sciences department to perform target validation and to characterize the potential functional activity of candidate therapeutic antibodies and proteins.
- The individual should be highly motivated, demonstrate superior organizational skills, and once trained, have the flexibility to manage multiple projects simultaneously and relatively independently.
