The Pipe Fitter, Maintenance Consultant will be assigned to special projects in the technical support group of the cryogenic department. He/she will participate in cryogenic systems new construction and operational activities associated with SRF cryogenic systems.

Under general supervision this consultant will provide technical support, which includes:

• Abiding by all environmental, safety and health regulations
• Measuring, cutting, threading and bending various sizes of pipe and tubing to required angle using pipe cutters, pipe-threading machines and pipe-bending machines
• Assisting with the installation of pipe assemblies, fittings and valves using hand and power tools
• Cutting openings in structures to accommodate pipes and pipe fittings using hand and power tools
• Documenting relevant work information and producing reports as assigned
• Reporting progress to appropriate supervisory, engineering or project staff
• Responding to operational and emergency requirements of the area
• Performing maintenance on rotating equipment based on written procedures or verbal instructions

Qualifications:

• High School Diploma or GED equivalent
• Good communication skills
• Ability to work both independently and in a team environment
• Ability to be Oxygen Deficiency Hazard and radiation worker qualified
• Legally able to operate cars and light trucks--valid driver’s license
• Able to lift up to 50 lbs
• Able to work year-round outdoors; walk, climb, bend, stoop and twist; work in confined spaces; and work at heights
• Available for call-ins and occasional over time
• Able to read and use design drawings and schematics of components with minimal assistance
• Able to take fractional and decimal measurements to assist with layouts and installations
• Planning/organizing skills to accomplish detailed work
