This position is based in Waltham, MA
A Research Specialist plans, organizes, performs, and analyzes cell-based assays in a time-efficient manner for the purposes of identifying novel drug candidates under the supervision of a Director of Biology or an Associate Research Scientist. The position will include some assay development related to exploring the biology of a variety of normal cells isolated from the skin. Additionally, this position contributes to the maintenance and daily operations of the research laboratories, supply chain maintenance, and other associated tasks involved in research operations.
Qualifications Education and Experience:
Seeking a BS in a life science or biotechnology with 2 years experience in academia and/or the pharmaceutical or biotechnology industry OR a MS degree with lab courses in cell biology, biotechnology or related courses, and additional lab experience through an internship, coursework, thesis project, etc. Experience must include demonstrated knowledge and skill in basic cell culture and cell-based assays and analytical techniques such as qPCR and ELISA. Alternatively, an equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the individual with the required knowledge, skills and abilities is acceptable.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- A working understanding on the application of general molecular biology techniques including, or similar to: aseptic culture technique of primary and immortalized cell lines, RNA/DNA/Protein extraction and quantification, SDS-PAGE, Western Blot, ELISA, qPCR, bDNA and multiplex techniques, and Immunohistochemistry.
- Experience in performing cell-based assays to evaluate gene transcription, protein expression, cell proliferation or other common in vitro endpoints
- Utilization of an analytical approach to assay troubleshooting, including the ability to recognize potential mechanical or chemical incompatibilities within an assay.
- Familiarity with common analytical software tools such as Microsoft Office and GraphPad Prism or equivalent statistical software
- Ability to work with large numbers of samples and to process complex data sets
- Strong organizational, and excellent record-keeping skills
- Willingness to be flexible with assignments, to work independently, and to meet deadlines
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- Must have a strong work ethic, be a team player, and have the desire to contribute to and grow within the company
