| Job Description Corporate Strategy - Project Manager-0900225 Description
Timken has adopted Managing for Value (MfV) as its foundational business process for driving growth and intrinsic value creation. The MfV process requires: a dependable, living & growing fact base; sound statistical analysis; adherence to value driven principles; a deep understanding of markets, economic environments & cycles, customers and competitors; and the ability to create innovative business models.
With a fact base is in place, the MfV process requires the use of "outside the box" thinking to develop potential new business opportunities. These opportunities would then need to be studied, modeled, and ultimately presented to the Executive Committee as attractive growth ideas.
This position exists to drive the creation of new business ideas, the validation of these ideas with market based information, the creation of the business model and value statement and, finally, the presentation to the Executive Committee for their consideration.
This position will:
- Work directly with the Executive Committee & CEO to facilitate meetings to draw out potential new business models & strategy for further development
- Validate each unique business opportunity at a high level with market based needs assessment tools and processes; move successful business opportunities into the Identify Phase
- Lead 6 Identify Phase cross functional teams per year (typically) to create potential new growth strategies using the MfV process and tool set.
- Lead the presentation of new growth strategies to the Executive Committee for approval into the Define Phase.
- Work directly with each member of the Executive Committee to determine specific strategic questions, gaps, or opportunities and conduct specific strategic studies to develop potential tactics to close the gaps or optimize the opportunity for Timken.
Qualifications Educational Requirements:
- Bachelors Degree in Business Management with 7+ yrs experience in Industrial Market spaces with Power Transmission or Friction Management products or services
- MBA (preferred) with 7+ yrs experience in Market Space/Customer Interaction in Industrial PT or FM.
Desired Experience:
- Strategy Development Consultant with 5-7+ yrs experience.
- Five or more years experience with the following characteristics:
- Must have strategy development consulting experience in Industrial market spaces, preferably having facilitated/led sessions directly with the leadership teams of Fortune 500 companies.
- Must have significant experience in leading cross functional teams to successful conclusions in high-pressure (time constrained) projects within Industrial market spaces.
- Must have experience in market analysis tools (market maps, channel maps, profit maps, VOC/VOM, etc.) and demonstrate an aptitude for accurately determining market attractiveness, unmet customer needs, and market valuation of potential new market spaces.
- Must be able to demonstrate a disciplined approach to problem solving, project triage, and stage/gate processing and yet be an "out of the box" thinker. Skilled in presentation and spreadsheet software tools
- Working understanding of statistics, options, & risk management.
- Working understanding of business financial statements (Income, Balance Sheet, & Cash Flow).
