Vision Service Assistant II

*Preferred Skills: Flexiblity to travel and work in other locations and to work evenings / weekends from time to time as needed.*

Purpose of Job
Assists the vision services department by scheduling appointments, greeting and assisting patients, performing initial vision tests, and assisting optometrists and opticians.

This position consistently supports compliance and Kaiser Permanente’s Code of Conduct by adhering to federal, state and local laws and regulations, accreditation and licenser requirements and Kaiser Permanente’s policies and procedures.

Duties and Responsibilities
1. Makes appointments for patients with optometrists and ophthalmologists.
2. Greets patients, takes co-payments, enters data into medical records, and escorts patients to examination room.
3. Performs initial tests for optometry patients using specialized equipment.
4. Provides test results to optometrist and identifies abnormal conditions.
5. Assists optometrist to conduct examinations as directed.
6. Assists patients to understand spectacle and contact lens options following diagnosis by optometrist.
7. Assists patients in the selection of spectacle frames under direction of an optician.
8. Cleans and polishes hard and soft lenses.
9. Performs other related duties as directed.

Minimum Qualifications
Experience
• Two years of experience in a retail or vision services environment preferred.
• Six months experience working with contact lenses required.

Education and Training
• High school diploma or equivalent education required.

License, Certifications, Other Credentials
• One of the following certifications: Contact Lens Dispenser (US-CLD), National Contact lens Examiners Certification, Certified Ophthalmic Assistant (US-COA, CPOA, CPOT), National Para-Optometric (US-CPO), Completion of any Optometric Assistant Program of studies, Completion of the Self-Study Paraoptometric Assistant Course, Ophthalmic Medical Assisting-Independent Study Course, or any comparable certification or Optometric or Ophthalmic course completion required or within six (6) months from date of hire.
• CPR certification preferred
Other Qualifications
• Completion of a proficiency checklist within 90 days of employment.
• Proficiency in the use of applicable computer software.
