| Description
Meet the new Merck. A stronger pipeline. More products to help people in more ways. More passionate than ever about what matters to our customers.
Merck and Schering-Plough are now one company. We recently merged to create a stronger, more diverse and more truly global company. This not only benefits our company and our shareholders, but it also benefits the millions of people around the world who rely on our products and expect us to continue to deliver exceptional value.
The program allows five successful candidates to experience 3 rotations over a 2 year period, spending 8 months in each rotation. The rotations are chosen from the highest needs in the division, and span the three areas of chemical (small molecule), biological (large molecule) and pharmaceutical technologies. There is also breadth in that the rotation may be in an area of Commercialization - initial process and/ or analytical development, scale-up, and launch, Technical Operations or Technology & Engineering - sustained process oversight and continuous improvement, or basic analytical investigative work to support manufacturing processes. These rotations are located at sites within North America. There may also be an opportunity to spend one half of a rotation (6 months) at a site outside of the US. Because business priorities are assessed before each round of rotations, the available rotations and sites can change at each rotation offering. While it is not required that a candidate move between sites during the program, it is highly encouraged, as that allows the employee to gain the broadest perspective of the division, and to maximize learning and exposure. During the program, each employee has a buddy from a previous class of rotational employees, as well as a mentor to help with acculturation at Merck and career planning.
Rotations will be chosen from the following areas:
- Chemical Process Development and Commercialization (Rahway, NJ)
- Pharmaceutical Commercialization and Development (West Point, PA)
- Analytical Development and Commercialization (West Point, PA)
- Center for Material Science and Engineering (West Point, PA, Rahway, NJ)
- Global Vaccine Technology and Engineering (West Point, PA, Elkton, VA, Durham, NC)
- Biological Science and Strategy (West Point, PA, Rahway, NJ)
- Global Technical Operations (West Point, PA, Elkton, VA)
- External Manufacturing (West Point, PA)
- Pharmaceutical Chemical Manufacturing and Control (West Point, PA, Rahway, NJ, Whitehouse Station, NJ)
Rotations are identified several months before each change is made based on the highest business priorities. Employees are assigned to rotations based on their development interest, discussions with their mentor, and business need.
Among the program benefits is the individual attention each employee receives in obtaining experiences that align their career objectives with current business needs. Program participants will also have access to a network of previous or current Technology Rotation Program members that can help in rotation selection. TRP allows its employees numerous networking opportunities within each assignment. These contacts can prove to be invaluable for future Merck experiences.
