CHIEF OF POLICE The City of Ferguson, Missouri (22,406) is located in the heart of the St. Louis metropolitan area. With close proximity to downtown St. Louis, Clayton, and Lambert St. Louis International Airport, the City serves as world headquarters to a Fortune 500 company, Emerson Electric, and is part of the rapidly progressing NorthPark development, featuring Express Scripts' world headquarters, Vatterott College, Staples, and will ultimately house 10,000-15,000 jobs. Ferguson and NorthPark are well positioned to continue their partnerships with the University of Missouri St. Louis, a neighbor. The community is a mix of historic and diverse neighborhoods, a revitalizing central business district, and big-box stores in the I-270 corridor. The City provides a full range of municipal services with a budget of $20+ million and 140 full-time employees. The Police Department consists of an entire staff of approximately 65 employees (commissioned and civilian). The City of Ferguson is seeking a candidate who is a highly responsible professional who can oversee the administrative and management work in planning, organizing, and directing all divisions, programs, and activities of Ferguson's public safety services through its Police Department. The ideal candidate will be responsible for the administration and coordination of all Police and disaster services through the establishment and administration of policies, procedures, and regulations including those pertaining to police services, training, and maintenance. Work involves responsibility for planning, organizing, and directing the efficient and effective daily operation of the Police department, assuring that laws and ordinances are enforced, that criminal offenders are identified and apprehended, protect lives and property, and add to the overall welfare of the community. Work also involves determining overall plans and policies to be followed in conducting all Police and emergency operations. Candidate should have knowledge of finance and budgeting. Candidate should have the ability to work with City Council, other municipal officials, subordinates, government authorities, and the public. The Chief of Police performs under the direction of the City Manager.Bachelor's degree in criminal justice, business or public administration, or a related field; achievement of a Master's degree preferred; comprehensive practical experience in police and administration, including 10-15 years experience and previous experience in a managerial capacity is required.
