May perform one or more of the following:
- Directs the activities of an integrated hardware/software systems design function
- Plans and organizes the development of systems programming and operating system capabilities for the data processing facility to assure the interfacing of software systems with hardware configuration and applications system requirements
- Develops and implements system software and technical requirements for operating systems, compilers, and utility programs
- Evaluates current and projected hardware/software needs, and coordinates the installation of new operating systems
- Manages the planning and delivery of data warehouse architecture design services, providing sizing and configuration assistance, and performing needs assessments
Frequently interacts with sub-ordinate supervisors, customers, and/or functional peer group managers, normally involving matters between functional areas, other company divisions or units, or customers and the company. Often must lead a cooperative effort among members of a project team. This candidate must be able to lead by example.
Manages the coordination of the activities of a section or department with responsibility for results, including costs, methods and staffing. Normally manages the activities of professional individual contributors and/or subordinate supervisors. In some instances this manager may be responsible for a functional area and not have any subordinate employees.
Skills:
1. 7-10 years experience with SUN Solaris (Senior level). Some experience with AIX also desired.
2. Knows how to script & comfortable with both GUI & command line interfaces
3. Direct attached storage management experience eg. modular arrays directly attached to hosts
4. Experience with Enterprise Monitoring tools and systems.
5. Any experience in any one or more of highly preferred skills listed as follows:
A. Knowledge on configuring SAN attached storage into volume groups.
B. Ability to design and determine required SAN configurations for small to mid size enterprise solutions.
C. Experience with Network Attached Storage (NAS) configuration management, administration & security such as on EMC Celerra & Netapp.
D. UNIX administration experience with using clustered software such as Veritas, MC Service guard, Sun Cluster.
E. UNIX administrators experience with using volume management and file system management.
F. Replication software such as HDS Truecopy, EMC SRDF, Veritas VVR
