Vice President of Engineering: Tessera
In this critical role, the VP of Engineering will serve as a key member of the senior management team and contribute across a broad range of technical and commercial issues. The chosen candidate will have a proven track record of managing technology development including definition of objectives, milestones, budget and resources as well as performance to the aforementioned. This person will establish strategic relationships with OEMs and supply chain partners to accelerate the development and adoption of market-relevant technologies. This individual will drive intellectual property development, assessment, and prioritization to ensure technical achievements are well protected.
The VP of Engineering will also need to demonstrate an exceptional level of team building and project management skills, and the intuition to recognize and direct the varying elements of projects and personnel demands that drive a successful technology company forward. The VP candidate will be a student of current industry trends, ensuring that the company maintains its technology leadership position.
Tessera's wafer-level optics team (Tessera North America, Inc.), based in beautiful Charlotte, North Carolina, develops and manufactures wafer-level camera, wafer-based micro-optics and micro-optical systems. The group's leading-edge product offerings include a range of lenses that are used in a variety of highly-specialized consumer and industrial applications including cellular phones, photonics, photolithography, telecommunications, aerospace/defense, vision, and data storage.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES o Responsible for leading and enhancing a world-class research and development team. o Demonstration of personal integrity; a result driven, self-disciplined person with the ability to work both colaboratory and as an individual. o Provide technical direction and guidance, as well as hands-on oversight for all product development projects of varying complexities. o Ensure that developed products are fully and correctly defined, developed, tested, documented, and transitioned external and internal customers. o Work with Manufacturing, Marketing and Sales to achieve revenue goals, meet product launch requirements, and address new business opportunities. o Ability to negotiate senior-level deals with customers and vendors. o Functional expertise and strong people management and communication skills; professional communicator with the capacity to clearly explain expectations and progress to the executive team, as well as your own employees. o Accelerate creative research and development to competitiveness commercialization. o Familiarity with legal and business issues associated with intellectual property. o Engage with strategic development partners and identify and evaluate possible acquisition targets with appropriate technologies to advance development efforts Identifying and analyzing competitive solutions. o Participating in annual strategic planning process.
EXPERIENCE o 15+ years of engineering/R&D experience with at least five-years in a senior management role. o Strong and current experience in wafer-level or conventional-camera technology preferred. o Solid experience in leading large, highly-skilled, international technology teams across the world. o Experience with managing and negotiating a multi-million dollar budget. o Experience with business development and licensing models o Minimum Bachelors of Science degree in an engineering or physics discipline. o Strong verbal and written communications skills. o Ability to travel both domestically and internationally.
