JOB DESCRIPTION:
Supervises and coordinates activities at the Grand Junction Plant location, producing and repackaging compressed liquid gases into cylinders and manage plant and distribution activities. Corrects unsafe acts or conditions without delay. Assigns job tasks to employees according to customer needs, current stock levels and worker's expertise. Studies production scheduled and estimates worker-hour requirements for completion of job assignment. Interprets company policies to employees and enforces safety regulations. Establishes or adjusts work procedures to meet production schedules, using knowledge of capacities of machines and equipment. Implements measures to improve production methods, equipment performance, quality of product, and changes working conditions and use of equipment to increase efficiency of work crew. Analyzes and resolves work problems, or assists workers in solving work problems. Initiates or suggests plans to motivate workers to achieve work goals. Recommends or initiates personnel actions, such as promotions, transfers, discharges and disciplinary measures. Maintains time, production records, and any other records required to manage production plant activities.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
• Operate and safely maintain plant for packaging gases into cylinders while ensuring compliance with all federal, state, local and company policies, procedures, regulations and laws.
• Conduct periodic checks of plant for safe and efficient operation.
• Ensure all injuries and accidents are properly investigated and reported within 24 hours.
• Resolve problems associated with plant operation.
• Ensure all safety rules are strictly observed and safety training is regularly scheduled, conducted and documented.
• Provide coaching and corrective action promptly, to ensure that poor performers are identified, documented and improved to acceptable performance, or discharged.
• Approve overtime when essential, while keeping overtime at acceptable levels.
• Ensure employee complaints, issues, etc. are effectively handled.
• Operate a forklift, pallet jack and other warehouse equipment.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
• 5+ years experience supervising, motivating and leading first level supervisors and other employees, preferably in a manufacturing environment
• Experience with FDA, OSHA, and DOT requirements
• Working knowledge of blending mixtures and oxidizers as well as other non-compatible gases
• Ability to understand CFR49, Parts 100-177 and have the ability to apply these regulations
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Excellent organization, documentation and follow-up skills
• Mechanical aptitude
• Computer skills, including working knowledge of Microsoft Office or similar software
• Ability to perform work during prolonged standing up to 8 hours; frequent bending, stooping, crouching, reaching, grasping, feeling and repetitive motion also required.
• Ability to perform work during occasional climbing, balancing, kneeling, pushing, pulling activities.
• Ability to read and comprehend material safety data sheets
• Ability to work independently and under pressure to meet deadlines
• Must be able to work flexible schedule to meet management requirements and customer expectations
• Must have excellent people skills
• Must be able to work outdoors in temperatures ranging from -10 to over 100 degrees
• Ability to perform heavy work - routinely lifts 25 - 75 lbs., and occasionally lifts 76 to greater than 100 lbs.
• Must be able to safely drive a forklift.
Education and / or Experience:
Minimum - High school graduate or GED equivalent plus five (5) years industry experience.
Prefer Associates or Bachelors Degree plus five (5) years industry experience.
Language Skills:
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before customers or employees of the Company.
Mathematical Skills:
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
