We are seeking a highly motivated individual to join us in our Elkton, VA facility as we drive transformational change in our S&E processes, systems and performance. You will report to the Director, S&E (Elkton) and will primarily be responsible for the development and implementation of environmental compliance programs in support of our API and vaccine manufacturing operations. You will lead the site environmental staff and collaborate closely with the site safety and industrial hygiene manager to drive and lead a culture of EHS compliance and best practice.Key responsibilities include:
- Administer the site's environmental regulatory compliance program in accordance with accepted technical standards and methodologies and maintain good relationships with regulatory agencies and the community.
- Develop, implement and maintain environmental compliance strategy that includes obtaining and maintaining permits that maximize site's operational flexibility.
- Lead all tactical elements of the environmental program supporting site operations including air quality, water quality, solid and liquid waste management, spill water, ground water, and environmental risk management.
- Partner with operating department to integrate compliance with environmental requirements and procedures into daily operations, prevent non-compliance events, effectively manage change, and accept joint responsibility for achieving site performance metrics.
- Pro-actively identify and assure compliance with all environmental regulatory requirements, corporate programs and local procedures through ongoing review of processes, facilities, and procedures.
- Conduct regular audits and assessments of operating areas to assure conformance with federal, state local and corporate environmental requirements.
- Participate on global teams to share best practices on environmental program management throughout the corporation.
- Serve as primary contact for environmental regulatory agencies (federal, state, and local). Assess impact of emerging regulatory issues on site operations, interact appropriately with agencies to influence outcomes, and develop/implement action plans to assure continuing compliance as requirements change.
- Lead site environmental staff and provide effective employee development and performance management for a team of subordinates.
Qualifications Requirements:
- Bachelor's required. Concentrations in an environmental discipline highly preferred. Relevant professional certifications and/or Six Sigma Green Belt a plus.
- Minimum 10 years applied environmental professional work experience in a pharmaceutical, chemical or manufacturing environmental, coupled with 3 years in a position of environmental program leadership.
- Proficient in federal and state and regulatory programs.
- Excellent leadership, program management, project management, and organizational skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Excellent interpersonal and negotiation skills.
- Proficiency in MS Word, MS Excel, MS Powerpoint.
