Otsuka Maryland Medicinal Laboratories, Inc. (OMML) is an organization dedicated to developing innovative healthcare products that address unmet medical needs. OMML is the basic research center for investigating pharmacological actions of Otsuka's compounds. OMML conducts basic research to support global clinical studies and engages in drug discovery in conjunction with Otsuka Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd. in Japan .

Otsuka is seeking a Research Associate I or II to conduct high throughput screening (HTS) and secondary screening assays to identify novel drug treatments for disease associated with cognitive deficits. Conduct in vitro and in vivo mechanism of action experiments on CNS drug candidates. The successful candidate must have clear verbal and written communication skills, and be energetic, detail oriented, and a strong team player.

The specific duties assigned to the Research Associate I or II include the following:

  • Operate liquid handling instruments and perform commercial and custom designed HTS assays
  • In vitro culture of primary cell lines
  • Study drug activity using electrophysiological approaches
  • Preliminary data analysis and presentation of findings to supervisor
  • Ordering laboratory supplies and detailed record keeping

The successful candidate must meet the following minimum requirements:

  • Bachelors degree in a relevant biological science
  • 1 to 2 years (Research Associate I) or 3 to 5 years (Research Associate II) of neuroscience research experience, preferably gained in an industrial CNS drug discovery setting.
  • Experience performing in vitro cell based and cell-free assays to measure to drug binding and function at receptors and intracellular proteins.
  • Proactive, detail-oriented, team player keen to work as a part of a team of cell biologists and receptor pharmacologists to develop new drug treatments for psychiatric diseases
  • Technical experience working in a neuroscience and/or drug discovery/development environment, preferably in the areas of cognition, neurodegenerative or psychiatric diseases.
  • Experience with primary neuronal culture preferable but not essential
  • Electrophysiology experience preferable but not essential
