The Sr. Manager of Compensation is responsible for the development, implementation, administration and maintenance of compensation programs. Responsibilities encompass base pay, incentive pay, and performance management. Participates in compensation surveys and ensures competitive pay practices are maintained. Evaluates programs, keeps abreast of legislation, trends, advances and/or new technology and makes recommendations for changes and improvements. Provides counseling to employees and managers regarding compensation. Works with external vendors to develop, administer and design new or modify existing programs or systems.

Market Pricing/Analysis:

  • Analyze and evaluate new jobs and make recommendations on grade, incentive and FLSA status based on conversations with HRM and hiring manager
  • Develop and maintain job descriptions in standardized form. Maintain job code methodology. Assist associates with writing effective, line of sight job descriptions
  • Conduct organizational studies including levels within job families, structure of jobs, and development of standard jobs.
  • Apply knowledge of exemption tests to identify possible FLSA violations and make status determination recommendations based on results.
  • Conduct annual market pricing for 300+jobs from updated surveys and job content
  • Provide consulting services to management and HR partners on compensation issues and concerns.

Merit Review Process:

  • Manage merit increase process for home office, DC and field associates
  • Recommend merit matrix based on market data and business financials
  • Develop process improvements to streamline forms, spreadsheets, adjustments
  • Partner with HRM's to hit merit budgets, cost dollar impact to company

Compensation Surveys:

  • Participate in annual salary surveys
  • Determine premium surveys for market pricing data based on amount of job matches, participants, depth of analysis, data validity, sources and methods used
  • Create survey participation package based on data needs and budget guidelines

Field Compensation:

* Manage field incentive plan and payout. Develop and present more effective bonus plans and policies to meet the organization's needs

* Creates City Guide pay range methodology. Update ranges and code assignments annually to reflect market, geographical, volume and minimum wage requirements.

* Anticipate minimum wage increases, cost financial impact to organization, ensure affected associates receive increases and company is compliant.




  • Undergraduate studies in Business Administration, Human Resource Management or related field. Advanced degree preferred.
  • 3-5 years experience as a Manager of Compensation
  • Must have good math & statistical knowledge to conduct technical analysis and be able to explain analysis. Demonstrate proficiency of office software, specifically, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint. Must have solid analytical, problem solving and decision-making skills and abilities to conduct compensation studies and analysis.
  • Must have excellent oral and written communication skills to interact with HR Partners and field associates.
  • Must have ability to partner with and present information with confidence to HR Partners.
