Job Description
The Quality Management Nurse Abstractor works closely with department managers, committee members, and staff to develop and implement sound quality monitoring and improvement techniques. The Nurse Abstractor reviews patient records, conducts concurrent and retrospective audits and abstracts clinical information required by the Center for Medicaid and Medicare (CMS), Department of Health (DOH), Joint Commission along with other regulatory bodies upon request and as needed. This includes all data report submission requirements for reimbursement and or compliance. Assists as needed with activities related to peer review functions, including coordinating committees, case selection and review, indicator development, and database maintenance. Participates in all Joint Commission requirements activity throughout the organization and is responsible for ongoing education when needed.


Required Education
Bachelor's of Science degree in Nursing or related field, with at least three years experience in a related field, such as Quality Management, Case Management, Health Information Management, Nursing or medical coding, or equivalent combination of education and experience. National Association of Healthcare Quality Certification is highly desirable. Must have in depth knowledge of computer programs and demonstrated analytical skills. Strong organization and communication skills, both oral and written, required.
