GIS TECHNICIAN

Longview Timber, Corp. is a landholder of approximately 650,000 acres of timberlands in Washington & Oregon. We are currently seeking a GIS Technician for a full-time, salaried position at our main office in Longview, WA.

Primary Purpose:
  • To assist in digitizing and maintaining ArcInfo databases for timberlands on 9 tree farms in Oregon and Washington states.
  • Implement, administer and maintain a new document management system for land records.
Responsibilities:
  • Operates computer workstation to update maps as new data is received relative to the tree farms.
  • Conducts mapping research to resolve conflicting information and ensure the accuracy of the data.
  • Creates maps using GIS software
  • Scan, and index deeds, easements, leases and surveys for access by other employees
  • Maintain and troubleshoot the document management system
  • Demonstrates continuous effort to improve operations, decrease turnaround times, streamline work processes, and work cooperatively and jointly to provide quality service
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree in GIS or a related field of study
  • Working knowledge of ESRI products is required
  • 2 years GIS experience is preferred
  • Forestry knowledge is helpful
  • Must be able to work in a team setting as well as independently
  • Knowledge of computer &network systems
  • Excellent computer skills and willingness to use them extensively
  • Knowledge of Public Land Survey Systems (Section, Township and Range) is helpful
  • Other combinations of experience and education that meet the minimum requirements may be substituted.
