POSITION REQUIREMENTS
Standard Hours: 10-Hour various shifts
POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
EDUCATION: Internship in a State approved program required. A valid California Clinical Laboratory Medical Technologist license is required. B.S. in Biology and CPR is required. One-year internship in a State approved program required.
EXPERIENCE: None required.
SKILLS: Must be able to demonstrate technical knowledge in all areas of medical technology utilized by Mark Twain St. Joseph's Hospital. Must possess problem solving skills and the ability to work and communicate effectively. Performs mathematical calculations. Ability to work with a team and prioritize work. Interacts appropriately with others. Must be an experienced typist. Must be a good leader and teacher.
WORK CONDITIONS: Walking, standing, pushing, pulling and lifting in laboratory and patient care areas. Able to do work in spite of frequent interruptions. Ability to read work product of others, computer/ monitor screens, computer printouts. High exposure to communicable diseases and blood borne pathogens, rare exposure to toxic substances such as radiation, nuclear isotopes, chemotherapeutic agents. High level of concentration and attention to detail. Computer terminal work. Ability to be in one place for a long period of time. Must work call/stand-by duty when scheduled by hospital.
POSITION SUMMARY:
Responsible for generalized and specialized assignments or functions in clinical laboratory technology. Using independent judgment performs all laboratory tests necessary for diagnosis and treatment of patients at the request of attending physician(s). Performs all procedures proficiently and with a complete understanding of their method. Is responsible for insuring that all test results are substantiated by the use of appropriate controls and standards. Responsible for the evaluation of all work performed by laboratory assistants under his/her immediate direction. Assists in the collection of laboratory specimens and performs clerical and specimen processing functions when necessary. Performs other duties as assigned. Is proficient in all areas of the laboratory operation. Is available for call/stand-by duty to meet the needs of the hospital. This position treats/cares for patients of all ages.
