Manage and develop adult residential substance abuse treatment facility



Phoenix House seeks an experienced licensed Counselor to serve as Director to oversee all operations and clinical programming of a community-based therapeutic community by supervising and monitoring the work of clinical staff and support staff in the provision of compassionate, trauma-informed, gender-responsive substance abuse treatment services.

Primary duties include:

  • Develop and implement policies, practices and programs for clients that promote strong, healthy connections to peers, staff, and families.

· Provides training and supervision to staff to ensure employee development and a quality program for clients

· Responsible for performance management of clinical and support staff to include hiring, training, coaching, performance evaluation and general supervision.

· Develop and maintain organizational procedures to enhance program communication and consistency.

  • Review and approve staff documentation relating to program delivery, time records, leave requests, clinical records and other programmatic documentation.
  • Ensures data management systems and processes are in place to assure confidentiality and security of client files and client information.

· Provides quality assurance and improvement in all areas of programming including documentation, group, individual, family services, and educational services.

  • Conducts staff meetings, assures that effective clinical supervision protocols and practices are followed, and convenes case conferences to review client/program progress and to monitor clinical integrity and effectiveness of the program.
  • Reviews and approves programmatic expenses to ensure compliance with budget.
  • Responsible for ensuring appropriate staff coverage and scheduling.

· Establish and coordinates quality assurance programs to ensure compliance with all federal, state, local, licensing, and funding agency regulations.

  • Observes treatment services provided, both individual and group, to ensure that appropriate curricula, best practices and methods are being used and that high quality services are being delivered. Provides coaching as needed to develop counselor skills and improve quality of services.
  • Collect data, complete and submit required reports accurately and in a timely fashion so as to assure contract compliance and quality service.

· Develops and maintain relationships with funders, referral partners and community organizations to ensure growth and success of the program.

· Develops and maintain relationships with county and community organizations for effective transitional or after care for clients leaving treatment.

  • Plans all work steps to ensure success; considers time, supplies and support required from other individuals and departments in setting up work plan and completing duties.

Minimum qualifications include:

· Bachelors’ degree in related field required. Master preferred

· LCDC, LPC, LMFT or LCSW required.

· Five years experience supervising substance abuse treatment programs, preferably adult services

· Two years experience providing chemical dependency counseling and prevention services to adults, preferably in coordination with the criminal justice system.

· Analyze therapeutic processes and determine means of maintaining and/or increase efficiencies.

· Ability to exercise independent judgment and leadership, analyze situations accurately and take effective action.

· Ability to use effective leadership skills in daily interactions, planning and delegation of duties.

· Ability to use effective coaching and teaching skills for staff development.

· Ability to prepare clear and concise reports and to interpret statistical data.

· Ability to model appropriate therapeutic and professional behavior; lead a group of diverse personalities.

· Ability to Instill and maintain a sense of professionalism within a high stress environment.

· Ability to plan and collaborate with internal and external partners

· Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously while maintaining a high level of attention to detail

· Excellent verbal and written communication and presentation skills

· Proficiency in MS Office products and web based clinical programs, BHIPS preferred

· Excellent organizational, analytical, time management and project management skills

· Knowledge of Therapeutic Community model and evidenced based practices for criminal justice population

· Ability to demonstrate strong crisis management, conflict resolution and anger management skills

· Ability to effectively communicate in English and Spanish preferred
