The Production Planner/ Buyer will perform duties in accordance with a scope of responsibility predominantly driven by the daily execution of procurement and planning. He/She will coordinate material requirements for start-up activities and provide support to production site personnel. The role is accountable to provide a logistics main point of contact for tactical execution and drive coordination for the manufacturing project. The Planner/Buyer will collaborate with the quality unit to set-up and assure control of material specifications within company global electronic systems. In this role the associate will be required to acquire detailed knowledge of the manufacturing process and have the ability to articulate this knowledge to create bills of material. An in-depth understanding of the manufacturing process, materials, and products is required to perform effective communication in terms of quantity, scheduling, cost and status of the supply chain to a wide audience such as; finance, operations, quality and engineering. The incumbent will engage in product and process resolution and operational effectiveness initiatives. This role will comply with applicable safety, occupational health, loss prevention and environmental requirements.

Additional Duties:
  • Create RFQs to achieve cost savings/avoidance to meet the needs of the customer and optimize value for BD
  • Set up new vendors in SAP and assist the internal customer base in the identification of potential vendors and attaining all required information
  • Leverage corporate agreements to the advantage of the Wilson site operation.
  • Gain proficiency in the performance of SAP transactions. Assure SAP transactions are accomplished within established time limits
  • Support engineering with optimizing the opportunities for resources competing for scheduling in manufacturing areas
  • Support startup activities. Drive demand plans for materials in support of equipment start up through media fills. Planning meeting chair, to meet at least once per month to coordinate engineering efforts with multi-site supply opportunities
  • Review, present and coordinate all supply activity for materials in support of the Wilson prefill site start-up
  • Create and maintain production order BOMs within SAP. Demonstrate clear working knowledge of BOMs and the manufacturing process
  • Setup and maintain reorder points for warehouse stores. Employ deliberate and discrete strategies to create tools for measuring and understanding stocking level settings. Partner with spare parts team and assure continuity in stocking methodologies. Execute the appropriate risk vs. inventory strategy and a periodic review cycle
  • Use MRP for materials replenishment. Release replenishment orders based on BOMs in SAP MRP II
  • Review site volume fluctuations and perform materials analysis based on volume increases and decreases. Predetermine reorder point parameters based on plant volume activity
  • Provide service to the site customer base and assist with their business needs. Acquire knowledge of user requirements
  • Execute tasks as the master data lead for new item initiation. Work closely with IT during start-up activities
  • Act as the first point of contact for warehouse personnel for issue resolution
  • Execute and distribute monthly reports
  • Escalate issues requiring management resolution
  • Continuous review of space sizing requirements with regards to current and future demand. Advise management as changes require
  • Identify and execute continuous improvement projects
  • Promote a safe work environment. Associate will provide recommendations on maintaining the safety of the work environment. Participate in Environmental Health and Safety programs.
  • Addresses corrective actions whenever a hazard is identified. Provide timely notification to supervisor of all observed hazardous conditions or unsafe work practices
  • Assist in the writing or revision of Standard Operating Procedures and/or work instructions
  • Perform timely E system transactions and support department reporting and metrics
  • Bring regulatory compliance questions/issues to the attention of management
  • Provide recommendations to support systems that continuously improve product/process quality and product availability, reduce cost, and increase production capability
  • Remain current in required training
  • Provide assistance to Area Management as required
  • Perform other duties and assignments as required

Required Skills and Knowledge - Requires (7) years experience and a Bachelors Degree in Business Administration or related field. Experience in Procurement, Planning and Inventory Control within a pharmaceutical, medical and/or biotechnology manufacturing environment; CPIM or CPM preferred. Strong knowledge of Procurement and Planning in a cGMP environment. Demonstrated ability to perform detail-oriented work with a high degree of accuracy and strictly adhere to established policies and procedures. Effective oral, written communication, organization, and planning skills. Must have experience using MRP II, Procurement and Planning in an SAP environment. Good attendance and punctuality are an essential; strong interpersonal relationship skills are necessary for the incumbent


Degree of Accountability (discretion/supervision) - The incumbent will work under the direction of the Logistics Manager or designee; the incumbent has no direct reports
