Department Overview
The Finance department covers Product and Financial control. Both Product and Financial Control are jointly responsible for the integrity of the financial records of Barclays Capital.

The USD Exotics and Inflation product control is part of the NY Fixed Income product control group aligned to the USD Exotics, Structured Notes, Index Derivatives, Inflation and TRS trading businesses.



Main Function
The USD Exotics and Inflation Product Control Group performs the Middle Office and Product Control Functions to provide accurate, timely, explained and fully substantiated PnL on a daily basis.

Main Duties
We require a candidate with an understanding of Interest Rate Derivative products, who will be able to perform the product control role for a variety of Interest rate and Inflation products.

Key responsibilities:

  • Deliver accurate and timely daily P&L and Greeks risk reporting, for fixed income and interest rate derivatives products and portfolios. Produce and analyse effective risk-based explains. Ensure PnL and risk moves are fully understood, explained and reported to appropriate levels.
  • Ensure accuracy of downstream processes, including accounting and control responsibilities. Formalisation of PnL on a daily basis via reconciliation to day over day balance sheet change. Performance of mth-end close for the USD Exotics and Inflation books.
  • Review and provide commentary on new deal activity and market moves and its impact on the P&L and risk profile.
  • Assist and control the Front Office with respect to representing complex deals in the P&L/risk reporting systems.
  • Liaise across Infrastructure areas to ensure the integrity of the front to back control environment. The role will require interaction and coordination across regions, in particular with business support areas based in London and Singapore.
  • Issues/initiatives impact across business functions and the candidate will be required to work not only within Finance / Product Control but also with Trading, Risk, IT, Operations, Compliance.
  • Tactical and Strategic project work to meet business trading demands and ensure the integrity of the control environment is continually enhanced to effectively control the dynamic business environment


Person Requirements
Essential :
· Degree
· 1 - 3 years experience of working in a Product Control/ Middle Office environment.
· The individual needs to be assertive and able to work with the traders closely.

· The candidate will be expected to understand the business from both an accounting and a non-accounting point of view.

· Good knowledge and understanding of financial markets

· Experience of working against tight short-term deadlines in a dynamic, pressurized environment
Preferred :
Numerate Degree/Masters Degree
· Use of Excel macros and Access to build reporting and analysis tools
· Use of SQL / DB queries and ability to code in VBA would be advantageous
