Retail Merchandiser
Merchandise Specialist Mervyns LLC, headquartered in the San Francisco Bay Area, is a family-friendly promotional neighborhood department store offering trend-right fashions and home decor for the entire family at affordable prices. POSITION SUMMARY: Reporting directly to the Store Manager, the Merchandise Specialist will be part of a team of associates that will have a variety of responsibilities including: merchandise presentation, fill/recovery, visual presentation, and promotional activities.
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Reads, understands and implements written instructions that describe how the merchandise should be maintained on the selling floor.
- Promptly fills in merchandise on fixtures, racks, shelves, etc. by transporting merchandise from truck or stock areas to the selling floor and responds quickly to fill-in opportunities that occur throughout assigned shift.
- Executes timely implementation of collateral for upcoming promotional events. Ensures all proper In Store Visual Marketing elements, including signs, are in place in support of Merchandise Tab.
- Ensures all signs, fixtures and graphics collateral are presented and maintained according to Headquarters directions and timelines. Assembles, installs and removes all promotions/holiday/seasonal program graphics.
- Maintains following key merchandise presentation areas: Home trend tables, trend zones, shops (seasonal), wing walls as well as all key items and outsizing programs.
- Provides prompt, courteous and accurate customer service at point of sale for sales transactions, returns, and exchanges.
- Solicits credit applications and supports the use of the Mervyns card.
- Communicates clearly with customers, leadership team, and fellow team members in person, written, by telephone, or other inter-store communication devices.
- Straightens merchandise on fixtures and walls and responds promptly to detail recovery needs that occur throughout assigned shift.
- Follows all safety regulations in order to prevent accidents.
- Sets up fixtures and merchandise for new ads or rearranges merchandise layout in department.
- Completes paperwork involving counting merchandise, changing prices on merchandise, and sending merchandise to other locations.
- Follows procedures for opening and closing sales terminals.
- Remains alert to any shoplifting activity or internal theft concerns.
- Ensures customer satisfaction through effective execution of merchandising standards.
- Supports other associates in order to ensure effective teamwork.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
- High school graduate or equivalent.
- Retail experience preferred.
- Ability to demonstrate customer service skills.
- Ability to work well with others in a team environment.
- Ability to read, speak and write clearly.
- Bilingual skills are a plus.
- Ability to read number and written materials accurately.
- Maintain confidentiality of all operating information Ability to bend, stoop, and reach frequently, daily.
- Ability to hang and place graphics throughout the store including areas near ceilings, above fixtures, and other areas that may be difficult to reach.
- Ability to stand or remain stationary for prolonged periods of time, daily.
