Job Description:
Performs fundamental and technical nursing, skills/procedures within the realm of practice attributes to the skill of Licensed Vocational Nurse. The LVN is responsible for the implementation of the prescribed health care in accordance with accepted nursing standards and in compliance with Facility Policy and Procedure in an environment that is therapeutic, dignified and safe for the developmentally disabled individual’s services. He/she must have physical, mental and emotional health necessary to carry out the essential functions of this position. The LVN will be required to attend continuing nursing Education (10 CEU's per year period) required for licensure. Must be able to perform some lifting up to 20 pounds.

Essential Job Functions:
Checks new orders daily. Maintains CPR and First Aid certification and applies CPR in all Resuscitation Status I situations. Provides First Aid as needed. Orders and stocks supplies, equipment. Collects lab specimens. Collects routine weights and vital signs. Documents according to facility policy and procedure.

Knowledge Skills Abilities:
Ability to perform fundamental nursing procedures. Knowledge of medication administration, side effects, adverse effects, documentation and intended effects. Knowledge of anatomy/physiology and the ability to identify abnormal/normal findings. Ability to recognize signs/symptoms of illness or injury. Ability to analyze, transmit, receive and act upon verbal and written information. Interpersonal skills. Knowledge of Facility policy and procedure. Knowledge of Universal Precautions. Knowledge of laws relating to individuals with mental retardation. Organizational skills - ability to organize schedule work load.

Registration or Licensure Requirements:
Licensed as a LVN by the State of Texas or in a party state that recognizes reciprocity through the Nurse Licensure Compact.

Initial Selection Criteria:
LVN I/Graduation from an accredited licensed vocational nursing program with a valid permit to practice in the State of Texas while awaiting licensure. LVN III/Licensed to practice as a Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) in the State of Texas .

Additional Information:
2pm-10pm and 10pm-6am includes a 15% shift differential
