Special Education Assessment Specialist



Case Management: Manage the identification and documentation process for all students identified with learning differences including prereferral, special education, section 504 and dyslexia support.

Supervision/Mentoring: Provide support and supervision for services to students with learning differences as assigned by the campus principal. Provide individualized assistance, ongoing support and coaching to assigned teachers.

Assessment: Implement the special education appraisal process. Assess the educational, learning styles, and program needs of students referred to special education services. Provide diagnostic information and work cooperatively with instructional personnel to provide the most appropriate programs for students with disabilities.

LSSP: Perform professional psychological work in assessment, behavior management, and counseling for students with emotional disabilities, learning disabilities, and behavioral problems. Assess the psychological and psycho-educational needs of students referred to special education services.
Requirements:
Master’s degree in educational assessment or in psychology from accredited college or university
Valid Texas teaching certificate and educational diagnostician certificate, or
Valid Texas license as a licensed specialist in school psychology granted by the Texas State Board of Examiners of Psychologists*

Special Knowledge/Skills:
Knowledge of diagnostic procedures, education of special education students, human development, and learning theories
Knowledge of the Special Education ARD process.
Knowledge of procedures for assessing achievement and intellectual, emotional, and behavioral functioning for educational purposes
Knowledge of prevention and intervention strategies, including behavior management interventions
Knowledge of psycho-social development
Strong consultation skills for conferencing with teachers, parents, and students
Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills

Experience:
Three years teaching experience and/or
Two years experience providing psychology services in an educational setting
