CHEMIST / MICROBIOLOGIST

General Responsibilities:

· Perform antibacterial efficacy testing by performing time-kill studies of pathogenic bacteria per EPA procedures

· Have knowledge of the EPA/FIFRA process of registering pesticides for household use

· Work safely and efficiently with bacteria and be able to perform standard lab bacterial processes like growth, transfer, type determination and bacterial counts

· Perform gram stain and sterile technique

· Work with instrumentation such as: pH meter, balances, pipettes, automatic titrator, colony counter, Biological Safety Cabinet, vortex, centrifuge, microscope, autoclave, electronic nose, viscometer, incubator, stability oven, and many more

· Construct standard operating procedures. Must be able to record, collect and report data in an organized manner. Prepare technical reports and recommendations based upon research outcomes.

· Formulate novel products using analytical, chemical, and biological processes.

· Evaluate raw materials/amend product formulations

· Develop cleaning test protocols: test competitor’s products and support Marketing with test data.

· Solicit, coordinate, and manage independent laboratory testing

· Maintain and revise product MSDS

· Collect, compile, and resolve customer complaints and chemical inquiries

· Establish and maintain project budget

· Work independently or with Engineering, Production, and Marketing groups

· Meet and communicate with vendors on a regular basis

· Must utilize programs such as Word, Excel, and Power Point

· Must make decisions about raw material selections & vendor selections.

· Responsible for troubleshooting & production batch correction in case of errors.

· Responsible for correct translation of formulas from lab to JDE system.

· May require travel.

General Specifications:

Bachelor’s Degree in Microbiology, Biology or Chemistry with 2 years’ lab experience. Some lifting(up to 50 lb) may be required. Must be able to pass reference verification, background search, post offer employment physical and substance abuse screen. Overtime as required and authorized.
