Responsibilities

Symmetricom is looking to hire an experienced engineer/programmer for our product development team. This individual will be responsible for creating embedded applications for precision time and frequency control products. It requires someone with strong programming skills and experience working with embedded applications based on Linux. Most of the work will be coded in C/C++, but proficiency in other languages such as python or php would be considered a plus. Basic understanding of electronics hardware is required. Past experience architecting, developing and deploying applications for Linux is important, with driver-level experience a plus. We are looking for an individual that can produce well-documented, quality code. All projects within this group are a team-effort and therefore require production of support materials such as system documentation and ECOs. Furthermore, participation in collaborative exchange methods (wikis, design reviews) is essential. Most of this work will be for military and space applications, consequently US citizenship is a requirement.

Essential Qualifications
  • BS in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering or Physics
  • Minimum of 3 years experience with embedded software development including 1 year minimum writing programs for Linux
  • Strong programming skills in C/C++ with an emphasis on embedded systems
  • Working knowledge of electronics hardware
  • Solid understanding of OS coding techniques such as threading, processes, interrupts, etc.
  • Excellent communication, writing and organizational skills
  • Willingness to travel 2-4 times per year
  • Must be a US Citizen or hold a "Green Card"
Desired Qualifications
  • Masters Degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or Physics
  • Development experience with Ethernet stack, Python, PHP, Apache, SNMP
  • Experience with Linux kernal and driver development
  • Knowledge of IEEE-1588 and NTP protocol
  • Knowledge of precision time and frequency systems
  • Knowledge of GNSS and time distribution techniques
