Description: Responsible for maintaining, evaluating and providing medical pathology
transcription for assigned physicians to meet the needs of The
Vancouver Clinic and its satellites. Solves reporting problems that
arise and are unique to anatomic pathology. Can effectively communicate
with physicians, staff, patients/patient’s families, and sales reps
Understands the processes in anatomic pathology to ensure effective
communication. Tracks pathology slides and ensures that all Pathology
documents, records and slides are stored in accordance with all
applicable regulations. Will maintain and QC and QA documentation for
anatomic pathology. Prepares correspondence. Completes billing as
needed.
I. SPECIFIC JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
Essential Responsibilities:
• Performs monthly Quality Control reviews on Pathology Transcriptionists as directed.
• Transcribe assigned dictation as needed of pathology reports dictated by Pathologists.
• Evaluates potential Medical Transcription personnel.
• Organize and maintain working schedule for on-call pathology transcriptionists.
• Coordinates on-call coverage for Pathologists and Histology Technologists.
• Organize and provide reports on a timely basis to Laboratory Manager as requested.
• Trains physicians and new staff transcriptionists to the transcription systems.
• Assumes responsibility for pathology department workflow operations in the absence of Laboratory Manager.
• Review and provide requests for budget preparations to the Laboratory Manager.
• Provides IS support to the LIS analyst.
• Accessions pathology specimens.
• Labels cassettes and slides.
• Assist pathology department staff with ordering supplies.
• Assists pathology staff with creation and maintenance of department policy and procedure manuals.
• Understands and complies with code and evacuation procedures.
• Adheres to departmental performance standards.
Telephone
• Answer incoming phone calls within 5 rings.
• Perform initial triage of phone call per simple protocols.
• Transfer call to appropriate department utilizing voice mail when appropriate.
•
Take messages that are accurate, legible, complete with names, dates,
time, phone number, correctly routed to appropriate person.
• Complete messages and have available for pick-up within 15 minutes of call.
• Handle emergency calls calmly, promptly according to established emergency protocols.
• Respond to all patient interactions professionally with tact, patience, and compassion.
• Sort and distribute mail (U.S. mail).
