The Dallas Morning News currently has an opening for an Advertising Media Planner. This position develops sophisticated and strategic proposals for key clients by fully understanding the client’s marketing objectives and then translating those needs into media proposals that surface the right TDMN print and digital properties, the right messaging strategy (when necessary) and the right timing so that TDMN recommendations seamlessly align with the client’s briefing.

The Dallas Morning News is evolving to adapt to the current media landscape. Efforts have been made to shift revenue sources through controlled circulation, and to change the way we approach our advertising clients. We are now positioning ourselves as a consultative “solutions provider” and continue to expand our portfolio of products to reach unique audiences across the Dallas area. Our properties include: The Dallas Morning News, Dallasnews.com, Briefing, Quick, F!DLuxe, Al Dia, Neighbors Go, mobile marketing, Yahoo! Behavioral Targeting, SEM/SEO, etc.

To be effective in this role, the Media Planner is expected to be comfortable accessing and analyzing data from data sources like Scarborough, Neilsen, Claritas, Comscore, Omniture and proprietary data. Insights gleaned from 3rd party data will drive the rationale for recommended media properties. Reporting to Director of Research within the Marketing Department.

Education:

Bachelor’s degree in marketing science, research, or marketing required.

Experience:

Five plus years of media planning experience at advertising agencies. Research experience in all forms of media. Account management and media planning experience working with sophisticated marketing clients. Experience converting client briefings into media strategies and tactics. Must demonstrate the ability to write high quality presentations that sell media plan proposals. Must be experienced at executing approved media plans.

Skills:

High degree of computer literacy and competence with Microsoft Office and 3rd party media research software. Must be able to quickly learn sophisticated software tools. Superior verbal and written communication skills. Proven analytical skills.
