Unit Description:
5 East is a 27-bed unit that also has 6 medical/surgical overflow beds for a total of 33 beds with all rooms being private. The unit provides services to patients with a wide variety of neurological illnesses that require either medical or surgical treatment including CVA, TIA, laminectomy, spinal fusions, deep brain stimulators, brain tumors, MS, seizures, cerebral aneurysms, Parkinson’s disease, hydrocephalus, myasthenia gravis, vagal nerve stimulation for seizures, as well as a variety of other medical and surgical treatments. 5 East is also the pediatric unit taking care of patients between the ages of 1yr to 13yrs of age.

Unit Benefits:
· 12 hour shifts.

Experience:
The unit will accept Registered Nurses and Graduate Nurses that are committed to developing and enhancing their knowledge in neurological nursing.



Skills/Requirements

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
Required: Graduation from an NLN school of professional nursing.
Preferred: Completion of or actively pursuing a BSN degree. Experience as a Staff Nurse in an acute care setting

LICENSE/CERTIFICATION:

Required: Current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in Texas. Current certification from the American Heart Association as a BLS provider.
Preferred: Certification in area of specialty.
