POSITION SUMMARY:
The Vice President, HR Labor Relations will manage and direct all labor relations activities for the company, subsidiaries and joint ventures and assure labor developments are addressed in a professional manner. Ensures implementation and compliance with labor related initiatives, laws and regulations including training, negotiating and educating business partners. Advises company management on HR policies and programs, making or recommending appropriate decisions consistent with the organization’s strategic direction. Completes other duties as assigned. The position will report to the Vice President, Employee Relations.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Establish and maintain effective relationships with labor organizations that represent employees, negotiating and administering labor agreements and otherwise conferring with labor organizations on behalf of management, and providing guidance, consultation, and assistance to management on a variety of labor relations matters. Advise management and union officials in development, application, and interpretation of labor relations policies and practices. Investigate and resolve grievances between grieving workers/union and the company. Prepare reports, using records of actions taken concerning grievances, discipline, arbitration and related labor relations activities, to identify problem areas. Monitor implementation of policies concerning wages, hours, and working conditions, to ensure compliance with terms of labor contracts. Recommend changes to policies and established procedures that affect immediate organization(s).
Provide information, recommendations and support regarding proposed legislation and/or regulations relating to labor, employment and Human Resources matters. Works on issues of diverse scope where analysis of situation or data requires evaluation of a variety of factors, including an understanding of current business trends.
Direct and control the activities of a broad functional area through several department managers within the company.
Partner with HR and business leaders to develop proactive and positive employee and labor relations strategies and initiatives that drive business objectives. Drive culture change by diagnosing current and desired states, gap analysis and actions necessary to drive the desired state (culture). Interface with all levels of management on labor relations issues. Provides advice and guidance on administration of memorandums of agreements and letters of understanding, disciplinary process and other labor relations matters.
Performs other duties designed to meet the goals and objectives of the organization.
REQUIRED SKILLS:
· Experience partnering with senior-level management and addressing rapid changes in development and delivery requirements.
· Strong working knowledge of general Human Resources policies, programs, methods, practices and procedures related to Employee Relations, and EEO/AAP Administration.
· Strong working knowledge of applicable Federal, State and Local laws and regulations related to the Human Resources function (FLSA, ADA, Civil Rights Act of 1964, and FMLA).
· Highly developed consultative, influencing and negotiation skills.
· Assists in interpretation, implementation and administration of policies and procedures relating to labor and employment matters; drafts, reviews and/or approves memoranda, contracts, policies, procedures and legal documents in collaboration with corporate legal.
· Ability to negotiate union contracts and manage labor dispute and grievances; analyze and apply legal principles and precedents to legal issues.
· Outstanding oral and written communication skills.
· Excellent organizational, interpersonal and customer service skills.
· Proven experience working proactively and independently with minimal direction.
· Must have high integrity, ability to maintain confidentiality and deal with sensitive information in a professional manner.
· Must be able to interact effectively with employees and all levels of management.
· Ability to work well in a fast paced environment and work well under pressure.
· Must be able to travel minimum 50%.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
· Undergraduate degree required, J.D. preferred
· 10-15 years experience in progressively responsible HR Generalist roles, to include minimum 7+ years hands-on labor relations experience.
