Algorithm Scientist: Becton Dickinson & Company (BD)

• Designs, plans and develops possibly complex yet robust algorithms for use in applications of Flow Cytometry; creates development software for the testing of algorithms; performs code optimization.
• Participates in decision making regarding algorithm development and provides information on feasibility of prospective projects.
• Participates in project planning.
• Initiates interaction with other departments to maintain open information channels and to get a better understanding of how algorithm design may be affected by such factors as chemistry and biological processes.
• Prepares and reviews patent applications and manuscripts for publication or presentation at technical meetings where appropriate. Participates in customer laboratory visits to understand customer needs and competitor's products. Maintains knowledge of existing BDIS products. Combines this with knowledge of competitor's offerings for application to future products.
• Continues pursuit of knowledge through seminars and contact with members of profession at technical meetings at national and international level. Develops and maintains liaison with professional, scientific and academic experts.
• Keeps abreast of the basic requirements for compliance in own area of work and complies with those requirements. Participates as required in training on regulatory issues affecting own area of work. Brings regulatory compliance questions/issues to the attention of management.
• Promotes a safe work environment. May provide recommendations on maintaining the safety of the work environment. Participates in Environmental Health and Safety programs. Addresses corrective actions whenever a hazard is identified. Notifies supervisor of all observed hazardous conditions or unsafe work practices.

• Strong mathematics and science background with sound analytical/computational skills and proficiency in pattern recognition and classification.
• Solid hands-on experience with expertise in a programming language such as C, C#, and/or C++ in addition to a modeling environment such as Matlab preferably in Microsoft Windows environment.
• Comprehensive knowledge of design principles, methodologies, tools and techniques as well as state-of-the-art technologies, theories, and principles in algorithm development.
• Demonstrated ability to adapt and perform well in an environment of constant change and improvement.
• Demonstrated ability to prepare estimates and perform project scheduling.

• A minimum of a MS degree
• A minimum of 2 years experience in Algorithm development.
• A minimum of 2 years experience in MATLAB, R-Project, or S-Plus.
