Job Description
Seeking DB2 database administrators in Houston, TX.
Estimated Start Date: TBD

Jefferson Associates, Inc. is looking for an experienced DB2 database architect / DBA to work with our downtown Houston public sector customer to identify, recommend & implement solutions based on industry best practices. Candidate will be involved with physical implementation. They will be involved with all phases of database administration, including but not limited to: development, test, production, database maintenance, performance and tuning, backup and recovery, and production support. Candiate will also provide knowledge transfer to the customer for long-term support of the DB2 database environment.

Responsiblities:
- Operational Database / Datamart design, analysis, and maintenance.
- Perform all DB2 database administration duties such as: Create databases; move data between environments (development, testing, training, production); Software upgrades; Software configurations; DB recoveries.
- Installation support for DB2 products and supporting software infrastructure.
- Develop and maintain automated routines, scripts, SQL, triggers, stored procedures, etc.
- Monitor server performance, perform DB tuning, adjust configurations as needed.
- Develop data backup and recovery strategies and procedures.
- Knowledge transfer to technical staff.
- Other duties as required.

Required Skills:
- Working knowledge/experience with IBM DB2 version 9, supporting production environments.
- 2 - 5 years experience with Unix (HP-UX preferred) or Linux.
- 2 - 5 years minimum designing and supporting DB2 production databases.
- Extensive knowledge of SQL, triggers, stored procedures, and scripting.
- Strong documentation and communication skills.
- Willingness to work flexible hours, including on-call database support.

Desired Skills:
- Working knowledge of DB2 with Business Intelligence Software (ie. WebFOCUS).
- Experience with data migration from legacy (non-relational) databases to DB2.
- Ability to build and execute Disaster Recovery / Business Continuity Plan.
- Knowledge of Web services and web-based applications.
- Capacity planning and forecasting.
